ONE
HOUR LATER
Dr. Patterson
is being interviewed by the police as Ruth turns the corner into the hospital
entrance.
“Looks
like we lost him for now. We'll contact the Fugitive Task Force in Chicago.
Thanks for your help.”
“I hope
you catch him. The man is a disgrace to the medical profession!”
“You
helped him get away, didn't you?” he accuses her. “I should turn you in for
aiding and abetting.”
“I wouldn't
if I were you,”
She turns
and walks out down the hall as Dr. Patterson watches her with a shocked look
on his face.

KARI
HOLMES’ HOTEL ROOM
Kari is
sitting on her bed holding on to Helen’s diary.
Tears are streaming out of her eyes as though she’s been crying for
quite some time. She goes back to reread
the final passage.
…I’m meeting Richard for a run. I’ve decided to bring up having a baby. I so want to start a family. Perhaps if Richard and I became a family Daddy
might accept Richard better. After
all, if he can’t accept the package deal then he’ll just have to live without
seeing his grandchild. I love Richard
so much. I know he’ll be a wonderful
father!
Kari closes
the book. She makes some notations
on another sheet of paper. She counts
about four passages that will be useful in Richard’s case. She blows her nose. Her phone then rings.
She picks
up the phone, “Holmes.”
“Agent
Holmes, it’s Eve Hilliard.” She hears
Kari sniffling on the other end of the phone.
“Are you all right?”
“Ah yes,
it’s just a touch of allergies, what’s up?”
“Kimble's
been spotted. We’ve got another breaking case so I can’t leave now. The Captain
wants you to meet him at the main lobby of the airport in 1 hour. Get moving!”
“Agent Hilliard,
where are we going?”
“Syracuse!”
