“It’s done! It’s beautiful!” James exclaimed a couple months
later. It was now November. Sirius’ bike had been delivered to Hogwarts
and he was constantly busied in the dorm with enchanting it properly. James however, was busy working on the newly
named “Marauder’s Map” with Lily. Lily
decided to help them with the charms on the map, but didn’t want to have her name
on the map at all. No thanks, James…I don’t think I’ll ever get
Head Girl if I’m associated with something this illegal was her response.
Remus was busy in the library with Peter, researching Animagi and how
it worked. He honestly didn’t want to
put his amazing friends in such a position, deliberately asking them to do
something illegal, painful, and difficult just for him. But Avia’s whining and fussing was getting
incessant, so he promised he would research it.
His mind continued to drift to that mental picture of being able to be
with his friends at all times of the month…roaming around Hogwarts grounds
together, sneaking out to the Forbidden Forest… Remus couldn’t help but wish…if
only they really were there, it would make the transformations easier…less
painful. He bounced the idea off of the
Marauders a couple days after Avia came up with it, and they were all very
enthusiastic and ready to help. But it
didn’t make him feel any less guilty for putting them in such a position.
But back to James and Lily.
They were in the Hogwarts common room, very excited because they had
finally finished their long project.
Lily had helped with charms, but all the Marauders were consulted for
ideas and insults to add to the map. All
the Marauders were very enthusiastic about the masterpiece of a map, now they
could know exactly where Filch was at all times! They wouldn’t have another
*cough* episode like last year, when Sirius and his big boots knocked over
several coats of armor, and Remus and Siri had to sprint all the way back to
the Tower.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Emia was getting very lonely in the 5th year Girls’
Dorm. She had tried so many things to
avoid the incessant boredom she was going through. Avia was off with Remus somewhere, and Lily
and James were down in the common room working on that map. Emia was bored…so bored. She wanted to know where Sirius was, if only
just to meaninglessly flirt with him a bit. Emia was really getting a kick out of teasing
Sirius, she knew he was crazy about her, and she certainly liked him, but she
didn’t want him to think that getting a relationship with her again would be
that easy. However, lately, Sirius
hadn’t been around to tease. Emia didn’t
know where he went during those long hours she spent alone in her dorm, doing
homework, counting the stars in the sky, writing endlessly in her journal,
drawing, doing whatever was necessary to keep from being bored to death. Emia hated to admit it, self-righteous as she
was, but she really missed the guy.
Emia was currently laying down on her bed, staring at the ceiling. Classes were over for the day, and the
weekend sprawled out ahead of Emia, listless, boring, and monotonous, just as
always. It was a dull, rainy Friday, and
Emia didn’t know what to do. She didn’t
want to sleep yet, it was only four in the afternoon, but she didn’t know what
else she should do. Her homework for
the whole weekend was, pathetically enough, already done. Is this
what depression feels like? Emia couldn’t help but wonder that thought as
she stared off into space.
Emia really missed all the time that Lily, Avie and her had always
spent together. Now all Emia felt like
was the third wheel, because Avie and Lil never went anywhere without their
boyfriends. The only time they ever
really saw each other was when they went to sleep in their dorm. Last year, they had learned to balance the
world of boyfriends with the world of best friends, but now that whole balance
had gone askew. She was lonely, and
mentally berating herself for not giving Sirius a chance by now. Though she enjoyed seeing him so desperate
to be with her, she really did feel lonely, and she really wanted to be with
him. It was all so frustrating for Emia
these days.
Soon there was a knock on the dorm door. Emia was in pajamas already, but didn’t
really care, she didn’t mind answering the door in them. “Just a sec!” she called, as she got up from
her four-poster.
“Alright,” said the voice on the other side.
Emia went to the door, and swung it open wide. “Sirius! I mean, hi.”
Sirius smiled at her, he was well aware that she was quite bored and
depressed, that was why he came over here in the first place.
“Nice pajamas, Em,” he said with a wink.
“Yeah, yeah…was there a reason you came over, or do you enjoy randomly
insulting my sleepwear?” she said with a smirk.
“I do enjoy randomly insulting your sleepwear, but yes, there was a
reason I came. I have something to show
you,” Sirius said with a gleam in his eye.
“Oh? Should I get dressed?”
“No, no, you’re fine the way you are,” Sirius said with a smile,
leading her out of the dormitory.
Emia’s mind was racing. Did he actually enchant that bike? Is that
what he’s showing me? I wonder what it is…
Sirius’ mind was racing as well, but his thoughts were a little
different. I really hope she likes it…I
worked so hard on it…
Sirius continued walking…step by step, and then he found himself at the
door to the boys’ dorm. He had changed
it a little, in honor of becoming 5th years. The traditional Marauder poem was still
there, but Sirius had revamped the color of the door. Now it was an electric blue, but nobody
really cared. Everyone was used to
Sirius’ antics by now.
Sirius opened the door, and paused to let Emia go through first. She gasped.
Seated placidly next to Sirius’ four-poster was a shiny, brand-new,
blue motorbike. “Wow, Siri, it’s
beautiful…” Emia said, her voice trailing off.
“So you like it?” Sirius asked nervously.
“Yeah, I definitely do.”
“Do you want to go for a ride?” he asked Emie, still a bit nervous.
Sirius wasn’t sure how Emia would act.
Did she hate him? Did she want to be with him? With all of her teasing
and odd flirting, it was difficult for him to tell what she was actually
feeling for him.
“Sure,” she said with a smile.

Sirius “borrowed” James’ invisibility cloak to ensure that nobody would
discover he and Emia’s little secret.
And it stayed their secret. For
weeks after Sirius finally got it working and presented it to Emia, they would
just go on aimless rides around the grounds.
Most of the time Sirius drove, but he did teach Emia how to drive the
bike, and she greatly enjoyed it.
Neither one was really sure what they were anymore. They were very close, because on their rides
they had plenty of time to talk and listen to each other’s problems. Yet, the most pressing problem for both of
them was the one neither had the courage to bring up. What
WERE they?
Sirius, after all, had gotten her the bike. She loved it, and they went for rides
together. But that night in the common
room on the first night of the term, she had said that if he got her the bike,
then the long kiss she had given him would just be a preview.
After three weeks of wondering, Emia drove Sirius up to the
“I needed to talk to you,” Emie answered evenly, sitting cross-legged
on the floor.
Sirius sat down across from her, and asked, “What is it, hon?”
Emia looked down at the floor for a bit, then back up at Sirius, then
down at the floor, and asked, “What are we, Siri?”
Sirius’ whole mood changed. He
went from concerned and parental to nervous and stuttering. “U-uh, I d-don’t k-know, E-Emie…”
“Fine…what do you want us to be?”
“E-Emie, you k-know what I w-want… b-but, what do y-you want?”
Emia looked thoughtful and a bit confused. “I guess…I don’t know. I like you Siri, I just don’t know if I’m
really…ready for another relationship yet.”
Sirius looked at her with warmth in his eyes. “I’m glad you told me how you feel…I wish you
were ready for a relationship, though.”
Emia looked down at the floor. “Me too.”
Emia looked up and Sirius’ caring eyes were staring at her through a
mess of dark brown hair. Ah, how the tables have turned, she
thought to herself bitterly. Just last
year he was the one unsure about starting a relationship with me, and now I
can’t get up the guts to start another one with him…but oh how I want to. Sirius’ caring chocolate eyes always captured
Emia. They were deep and showed all of
his emotions. Right now they were light
and glazed, giving off the fact that he was a bit sad, yet still happy at the
same time. Emia felt like she was being
sucked in to those amazing brown orbs as she continued staring at Sirius. If you
break eye contact now, you’re never going to have another chance, said a
voice in the back of her head. But she
didn’t break eye contact. Her caramel
eyes fixed unwaveringly upon his, and she felt herself scoot closer to him on
the floor. She wrapped an arm around his
neck, and kissed him, kissed him until he was almost dizzy. Sirius didn’t know what to think. So many
thoughts were going through his head as he wrapped a strong arm around her
waist. Emia’s so beautiful, I don’t deserve another chance- I guess this means
she liked the motorcycle- what the hell are we NOW? But as Emia continued
to kiss him…melting into that embrace, his mind felt…clear. Everything began to clear up; all his
problems seemed to float away.
Sirius wished he could just stay that way, with Emia, forever.
