Chapter 22- Owl Post

“So, James, party tonight?” Sirius asked with a sly grin on the way up to the Gryffindor dorms.

“Oh no, don’t even THINK about it, James Blake Potter!!! You are meeting my parents tomorrow, and you will be awake, sober, and appropriate! Do you understand?!” Lily said with fury.

James cowered, and quickly nodded.  Lily broke into a smile, “What would you do without me?!”

Sirius opened his mouth, and James quickly covered it with his hand. “Shut it, Sirius.”

When James uncovered Sirius’ mouth, Sirius replied, “I was just going to say that your life would probably have a little less…hmm…direction, maybe?”

Sirius snickered and quickly ran off with Emia.

“Damn Sirius, if he wasn’t my best friend, I’d hate that git,” James muttered. “Sorry about what he said, I’m sure he didn’t mean it.”

Lily was laughing hysterically by this point, and looked up at him amid the gales of laughter.  “I know he didn’t mean it, I thought it was pretty funny actually.”

“Oh…c’mere you!” James swatted at her playfully, and started tickling her.

“No!! Not tickling!! You’re so mean!!!”

“Hehe. I know!” James replied with a laugh.

The next day, Lily was throwing last-minute things into her trunk.  She really should have packed last night, but her feet hurt her terribly from all the dancing, not to mention the teeny-weeny little shoes she was wearing.  Her feet had blisters galore, she thought sadly.

“Is there an anti-blistering charm?” she asked Emia hopefully.

“Well, no.  There’s a potion, but by the time the bloody thing is done, your blisters have just healed naturally anyway.”

“Oh. Damn.”

“Did you remember to bring back Petunia’s blue scarf you borrowed last year?” Emia asked with a grin. Petunia had let Lily borrow the scarf on one condition, that she not come home for the Christmas holidays last year, and Lily was only too happy to oblige.  She had forgotten the scarf at Hogwarts last year, and was quite well reamed by Petunia upon arrival home for the summer holiday.

“It’s in the trunk,” Lily replied, frantically searching for something.

What’cha looking for?” Avia asked, walking through the door.  Avia had gone down to breakfast, because she and Emia were staying at Hogwarts over Christmas this year.  Mr. and Mrs. Valmont were going hiking up on some mountain in Alaska.  Lily knew Alaska was part of America, but she didn’t know how big mountains were there. Probably pretty big, she decided.

“I’m looking for that letter from my father…I forgot whether Petunia and Mum would be there to pick up James and I as well.”

“Well,” Avia began, “and I quote you last week, ‘PETUNIA!!! NO!!!! She’ll scare James out of his wits!!!! Why does SHE have to be there?!!’”

Emia continued, “‘Mum? Why is Mum going?! She never goes to pick me up…bet she’s just going to see if her daughter has deadbeat taste in men! Wonder why she’s not at some other stupid charity function, when she so easily could be there, rather than PICKING US UP!!’”

Lily sighed, and said, “Well…damn. I didn’t want them to be there, but I guess I’ll just have to adjust. Where are my socks?”

“Don’t you have some socks at home?”

“Oh…right.” Lily’s half-hearted packing continued until she heard a clicking sound on the window.  It was a note from her father, though she had no idea as to how he got an owl to send it here with.  Hermia was still fast asleep in her cage, after all.  This owl, an energetic little tawny, was hopping on the windowsill impatiently.

“Coming…” Lily said with a sigh.

The note read-

Princess-

Well.  As much as Petunia would love…um…like to come pick you and James (That is his name, correct?) up today, she said she must decline.  Pet said something about a date with some young man….Vernon, I believe.  Not a real charmer, I’ll tell you that much.  He managed to grunt at me upon greeting, but that was most definitely it.  I hope your James is better than your sister’s taste in men…sigh.  Hope to see you soon, honey! Love you! –Mum and Dad

Lily looked up with a smile from the letter.  Her mum actually wrote the letter with her dad, so Lily was happy.  Her mum never had time anymore.  Charisse Lily Evans (yes, she is Lily’s namesake) was always busy with one thing or another.  But she felt very special when her mum had time for her, she thought, slipping on James’ locket.  She really hoped that Emilia and Thomas Potter would like her.  It should prove to be an interesting day.

James was running frantically around the boys’ dorm, packing rather haphazardly.  The whole room was disheveled from James’ frantic packing.

Sirius walked in the door, after going down to eat breakfast, and said, “Whoa. What’s happened here?”

“Frantic packing. Honestly, don’t ask dumb questions,” James snapped.

“And, what, may I ask, is up your butt?” Sirius laughed.

“Well, I’m just nervous, is all.  I’m desperate to have Lily’s parents like me.”

“They will. Stop worrying, it’s annoying me.”

“Thanks, Sirius.”

“Uh-huh.”

With that, Sirius closed James’ trunk, and they went down to the Gryffindor common room.  Lily was already there, saying goodbyes to Avia and Emia.

“Ready, dear?” Lily asked James with a smile.

“Of course,” James laughed.

The duo went down to meet the scarlet steam engine, laughing and talking the whole way.
