Chapter 14: Late Night Adventures
“OWWWWWWWW!!!! THAT HAIR WAS ATTACHED TO MY HEAD, AVIE!!!!!!” Lily screamed.
“SORRY…calm down, Lil...” Avia was curling Lily’s hair with a curling iron. It wasn’t going well; Avia was used to using magic with curlers.
“You know, Avie…this isn’t going well. We’re late…can you do it with magic?” Lily asked curiously.
“Oh thank GOD! Okay.”
Avia smiled into the mirror (she was behind Lily’s chair, and Lily was facing the mirror) and took out her wand.
Avia muttered a few choice words to the wand, and pointed it at Lily’s hair. She chose a select piece of hair to test her spell, an unnoticeable piece of auburn hair on the back of Lily’s hair.
“If I did the spell right Lil, then when I twist the wand, your hair will twist as well. Understand?” Avia asked.
“Yes. What happens if you did it wrong?”
“Well, that’s why I chose an unnoticeable piece of hair. Aren’t you glad you have friends like me?!”
Lily sighed, and waved her hand to give Avia the go-ahead.
Avia began to twist the wand, and the hair twisted as well. “Yes!” she yelled in delight. “Hey, Emie!” her twin called.
“Yes?” asked Emia, peeking up from Lily’s trunk. She was getting Lily’s clothes for tonight ready for her.
“Do you think most of Lily’s hair should be ringlets, waves, or just loose curl?”
“Hmm…loose curl.”
“I think so too, we’re like twins!”
“We are, you imbecile.”
“Oh.”
And with that, Avie went back to her curling.
Soon after, Lily’s hair looked magnificent, but she spritzed in some hairspray, just to be sure.
She slipped into her sweater, and put on her most comfortable pair of jeans. She put a hair elastic in her pocket, just in case she needed to put her hair up.
“Finished?” she asked the twins.
“Almost, make-up,” they answered.
“Oh.”
“Sit down in front of the mirror really quick, this will just take a minute.”
“Okay,” she sighed.
They put on very light eye shadow and mascara, and curled her eyelashes. (That scared Lily to death; she had never seen an eyelash curler before)
The twins gave her some Cherry Chap Stick, told her to put it on whenever her lips were dry, and sent her down to the common room.
“Another awesome job, Avie,” congratulated her twin.
“Couldn’t have done it without you, sis!”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Lily nervously
descended the steps to the Gryffindor Common Room. She should have just gone as herself, without
all this stupid make-up. Lily quickly
applied some Chap Stick, and walked into the Common Room. It was

“Where’s my shoe? Where’s my other dratted shoe?!”
James was frantically hopping around their dorm with only one shoe, while all the other Marauders tried to stifle their laughter.
That is, except Sirius. Sirius was howling, and rolling around on the floor for effect.
“Bloody hell, Sirius! Help me find my shoe! I’m going to be late, and I don’t want to make Lily mad! It’s our first real date, for chrissakes, have some pity here!”
Sirius stopped laughing, and nodded. Soon after, Sirius triumphantly held up the other shoe.
“Thank god! Where was it Sirius?” James asked, while putting on the shoe.
“Um…under my bed.”
“What was it doing THERE?”
“I was planning on hexing them later, but you came into the room too soon after your date with Lily, so I didn’t have time to find the other shoe.”
James sighed. Sirius could be so damn difficult sometimes. “Oh well,” James sighed, “Thanks for being honest, I guess.”
James turned quickly and ran down out the door, and down the staircase. He could deal with Sirius later.

Lily was getting a bit buggered
off. It was
Lily sighed; maybe he had decided to cancel. It wouldn’t be the first time. She fell into a soft chair by the fire, and stared into the crackling flames.
This boy was different, though, wasn’t he? She knew he was, the moment she first touched his hand she got one of her feelings. A premonition almost, a vision of her and James…together…in the future.
She sighed again, maybe she was just wrong. It’s happened before, she decided.
Warm hands started to massage her back right then, and Lily looked up with a smile. She knew it was James; James was the only person that gentle with her.
Sure enough, James was smiling down at her. “Sorry I’m late…Sirius took my damn shoe…” he whispered, looking ashamed of himself. “You look lovely, Lily,” he said with a smile.
“Thank you,” she whispered. Lily stood up, and took James’ hand into her own. “Do you have the cloak?” she asked.
“‘Course,” he replied, patting his book bag.
“Okay, let’s go…wherever we’re going.”
There were a considerable amount of people in the common room STILL, so James told Lily he knew a place they could put on the cloak.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It was about
“Where are we?” asked Lily out loud.
“W-who’s t-there?!” asked a whiny voice.
“Um…hello. Sorry to intrude, my name is Lily Evans.”
Lily, being the kind person she always was, went to see where the voice was coming from. The girl sounded very sad, and Lily insisted on consoling her.
“Oh, hello. I’m Myrtle.”
Myrtle was not, well, alive. She was a depressed ghost, sitting on her toilet, contemplating life.
“It’s very nice to meet you,” Lily said with a smile.
“You too,” Myrtle smiled. “Thank you for being nice…nobody is ever nice to me!”
“Well, I think you seem quite nice enough, maybe we can be friends,” Lily offered with another smile.
“I’d like that…you can use my bathroom whenever you want, dear,” said Myrtle.
“Thanks a lot, Myrtle! I have to go now though…I’ll see you around soon!” Lily said in her usual chipper voice.
“Alrighty!” Myrtle said with a smile.
Lily walked back to where James was standing in awe. “Wow,” he smiled. James threw the cloak over both of them, and took her hand. They walked out into the corridor together.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“Here’s a map,” James said with a smile.
“Wow…is this…all of Hogwarts?”
“Yeah…this map was my dad’s when he went here; his friends were just like mine. He said he’s going to teach all of us to make an enchanted map that will show all the passwords to all the secret passageways and will insult anyone not clever enough to unlock it…like that’ll happen,” James laughed. “I don’t even think it’s possible to make one of those!”
Lily laughed, but answered, “Actually, it is. That’s how I enchanted my scrapbook. I hate having people look at my thoughts and memories unless I want them to, so I created an enchanted book last year that will only open to certain voices. But you can create one that only opens to certain passwords too.”
“Really?” James asked in amazement. “You really do know a lot about rule-breaking, Lily. I never would have guessed!”
“It’s not against rules to want some privacy,” she said with a wink.
They were standing in front of a one-eyed humpbacked witch. “Hmm…” said Lily. “What now?”
“This,” James replied, and turning to the witch, he tapped it with his wand and whispered, “Dissendium.”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
James and Lily walked slowly together down the underground passage. Lily hadn’t the slightest idea where she was going, but she was having fun all the same.
“How long has your family gone to Hogwarts?” Lily asked curiously.
“Well, as long as I can remember…I think our ancestors go back to the start of the school (cough cough Godric Gryffindor cough cough.)”
“Wow…that’s a long time…” said Lily in awe.
“Yeah…why does Petunia, your sister, get on your nerves so much? How can someone be mean to YOU? You just made friends with Moaning Myrtle, for chrissakes…”
“Well, I guess Petunia just doesn’t like the fact that I’m magical. She hates anything out of the ordinary, that’s probably why she chose her fiancé, he’s quite annoying, I assure you. As boring as they come. His family owns a dratted DRILL company.”
“Drill?” James asked in confusion.
“Oh…I always forget how little you know about Muggles…a drill is a device used to…” Lily’s voice trailed off. What WERE drills used for, anyway? She certainly didn’t use the damn things.
“Uh, well, James…they’re used for something…but mainly men use them, so I don’t really remember what they’re for.”
“Oh, well that’s okay,” said James comfortingly, putting an arm around Lily. “I don’t plan on going Muggle anytime soon anyway.”
“That’s good,” said Lily. James always smelled really good, she decided. Like…minty…but not overwhelmingly so. Not like he dumped a whole bottle of Listerine or something on his head. No, like peppermint, and maybe a bit of pine almost…it was a good smell.
James kept his arm around Lily’s shoulder. Since he was a whole head taller than her, it seemed a good opportunity to smell her hair.
It was a wonderful, sensuous smell. It smelled of kiwis and limes, flowers and fruit. James loved to smell Lily’s auburn locks, and he allowed himself to continue smelling them and running his fingers through them until they came to the end of the passageway.
“It’s a trapdoor!” Lily exclaimed. “This is so exciting!”
James smiled and gave a nod, then signaled to Lily to be quiet.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
James took Lily up behind the counter of Honeydukes.
“Wow, we’re in the sweet shop!” she whispered.
There was a rather bored elderly man behind the counter, but he became more alert as two students appeared behind him.
“Hey, Earl!” smiled James.
“Oh, dear god, James, you scared the life out of me! Out of Hogwarts again!? Honestly, they’ll get ya expelled.”
“But you won’t rat me out, will ya, Earl?”
“Damned if I would, James!”
“Thanks, you’re the best. And this is Lily, by the way,” he said, pointing to Lily.
Lily smiled and extended her hand, “It’s nice to meet you, Earl.”
“You too, dear,” he said, shaking her hand. “Feel free to look around; you’ve got your pick of the lot.”
“Anything you want, Lily.”
“What? I don’t want you to pay-”
But James’ bright hazel eyes interrupted her. “Lil, my mum is thrilled I have a girl that cares about me. That’s right, I wrote her last night, and told her all about you. She insists I treat you like a princess, and I don’t have any intentions to do otherwise.”
Lily smiled, and her eyes began to tear up. Why did she always have to cry at the MOST inopportune times?! Damnit!!!
James wiped away her tear and said, “I hope that’s a tear of happiness, eh?”
“Of course it is,” said a VERY happy Lily.
“Okay, then. What would you like, sweetie?”
“Hmm...” Lily looked over the many racks of sweets in Honeydukes. They had every magical candy she had every seen!
She and James agreed to take a bit of everything but the candy in the “Unusual Tastes” portion, and they got plenty of levitating sherbet balls, and lots of Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum. “What will Professor Binns say when we blow huge bubbles in his class?!” Lily said with a giggle. “The wrapper says the bubbles will float in the air for days! Oh, Binns will be so mad!”
“He’s dead, what can he possibly do?!” James replied with laughter.
James and Lily walked up to Earl, and he tallied up the bill for all their candy. It was pretty high, around 17 Galleons. Lily gasped, “James, you shouldn’t pay for that alone!”
“Shhh, Lil, its fine. Totally my treat today.”
With that, James took Lily’s hand and led her out of the sweet shop.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
James and Lily were wearing the Invisibility Cloak, just in case some Honeydukes travelers recognized James. They stopped in front of the Three Broomsticks, and took off the cloak quickly.
“Time for some butterbeer, Lil!” James said enthusiastically.
“James Potter!” called a voice in the back of the Three Broomsticks.
“Oh….booyyy…this can’t be good…” muttered James.
James turned to see a rather perturbed Hagrid. Hagrid was the gamekeeper at Hogwarts, but he had always had a soft spot for James and Lily.
“Oh, Hagrid, I’m sorry we’re out so late,” gushed Lily.
“Yeah Hagrid…but I insisted on taking her out. It was my idea,” started James.
Hagrid held up a huge hand, signifying that he wanted no more explanations, and led them to his table in the back.
“Eh, Madam Miller, can ye get us two more butterbeers?” he asked loudly to the lady at the bar.
She smiled in response, and whipped out two tankards quickly. Madam Miller set them down on the table with James and Lily, and James paid her with a smile.
“So, ye two, how’d ye get out here?” smiled Hagrid.
James knew he could trust Hagrid, so he answered, “secret passage. You won’t tell, will you?”
“Wouldn’t dream o’ it, James. Yer a good kid, and so’s Miss Lily here. I think ye two go great te-gether, personally. Good luck w’yer relationship, eh?”
Lily and James finished their butterbeer, and thanked Hagrid for his silence and his support.

Lily and James got back to their
common room around
“Yes it was,” he laughed.
“Now that the entire
“So we are?” he asked with intrigue.
“I don’t know…I just assumed…”
“No, no…I want to be with you, Lily. But I didn’t know how you felt.”
“Oh, James…of course I want to be with you, but I want to take things slowly.”
“Of course, Princess. Whatever you want.”
He threw his arms around her waist in a thrilled hug, and swung her light body around for a bit. Lily laughed, and when he finished swinging her around, there was a pink tinge to her cheeks from the exhilaration. Lily giggled, and told James that she wanted her anniversary on Christmas…it would be the best present ever.
James nodded, and decided what to do. He had a plan.
She smiled at him while he thought, and said, “I really better go to bed. Good night James.”
“Good night Princess.”
And with that, Lily turned on her heel to go up to her dorm, where she knew Avie and Emie were waiting for the full details.
