I think of Zorro and Superman as being kind of like "cousins".
Both labor under secret identities, and also work hard to maintain a cover that is very unlike their true selves.
Both congure up feelings of mystery and excitment and the thrill of the secret.
I guess that's why both of these characters appeal to me so much, they are so much alike in their difference. Also, I'm a sucker for the happy ending story where the good guy shows up at the last minute and saves the day.
But enough about those two, I want to talk about Diego and Victoria and Zorro. An ill fated triangle if there ever was one.
Diego returns home after several years of studying at the University in Madrid and discovers that one his childhood friends has blossmed into a beautiful woman. Not only is she beautiful, but also independent and smart and has her own business.
She seems to be taken by him also and things may just be going well and Pow! along comes Zorro.
Now, she can not think of Diego, as the thoughts of Zorro cloud her mind. Zorro is everything that Diego is not, which Diego can not be if he does not want any one to know that he is Zorro.
How he must feel to know that the woman he loves is in love with him, and does not know it. And he can not tell her or let her think he is jealous of Zorro. This kind of interaction is captivating.
And if he does tell her he's Zorro, she would never believe it because he is dashing and handsome and brave and is not afraid of the alcalde or the lancers or anyone and Diego is just so well--Diego.
This is why this couple completely won me over. You want to see Victoria and Zorro together and you want to see Victoria and Digeo together and it's just so much fun to see what happens.
