The rain pounding down on the windows; and the light howling of the winds did not ease her. It did not stop the sweat from her face, her body, nor her fear. Her pillow, now her greatest fear, stood out in the whole room. She had witnessed something to unreal... She arose to see, her hotel roommate, sleeping soundy, or at least quietly without much fuss. She wanted to wake him, and confirm everything was real. That the reality she witnessed was one of her mind's. Fears seemed to control her thoughts and actions, she just wanted a way out, a way to prove she had nothing to fear. The shakey foot on the foot, made little noise, but was hard to stand on. She crept over, hoping not to disturb the roommate, before she would wake it. When she finally got into sight, and the figure could be discerned, he wasn't sleeping but rather laying with his eyes open staring out the window. The window that made the light howling noise which still shivered her spine. "Umm, sir. Aren't you tired its late," she said, trying not to reveal that she was actually scared. But no answer came from the man. She tried pinching him and everything but, nothing worked, he just laid there. Her spine froze and her mind geared up and shifted into high gear, running on pure fear. But, then he shifted and answered. "Did you have a nightmare, miss? If so its okay. I don't think its common for a person to awake late at night, and be so cautious in everything they do." The voice was calm, slow, and direct, just like reality, she thought. Her spine, broke the ice and her brain started running low on fear. "Umm, Yes I did, but... might I ask why you... didn't answer me a bit earlier?" she questioned him, hoping that this was reality and hoping that she would get a good reason. "I'm sorry, I haven't slept in a long time. Sometimes takes me a bit to realize things, especially when you look into 'space'. Please accept my apology, I am...," he said but was stopped with a simple hand motion. "No, I should introduce myself first, I was the one who started the conversation. I am Celes." "And I am Rane, Rane Of Dragons I have been called, but call me Rane please, I dont like formal titles anymore. It just bugs me," he answered sincerly, hoping to clear her mind of all doubts and that her fears are gone. "Thank you, Rane. I'm sorry I have disturbed you, but... sometimes nightmares are too frightening!" she whispered as he walked back to her bed. "I know, I can't sleep because thats all I ever have," he answered knowing she wouldn't hear him. And as she fell back asleep in the cozy inn, Rane went back to staring out the window, and into the lightless silent town. Always staring out into the towns never offered salvation for his dreams. It often made him long to just see them to pass the endless hours he woud spend counting houses, or noticing noises. All he ever used the bed for was something comfortable to pass the time on; for the floor was much worse for the back and brutally uncomfortable. He shut his eyes, knowing what would pay him a visit. That pained memory, that memory of his deed. The reason he left being a dragon, the reason he dropped all he knew... The world rippled, reversed, and contorted, til everything was how it should be. The unopen field, with its boundries of the plateaus which contained the Caves of Passes. The caves where he fled to after, which offered him some salvation and a little reminder to this memory. Then everyone started to fade in, all of his clansmen. And all of their enemies, blended together, in the fires of fury and hate. He hated it, he depised it, but he had to go through with this, maybe it will stop torturing him for the rest of eternity, if he played through this just once. Just one more time he'd have to bare the pain, of the truth and of the unchangeable facts.... Breaking the barrier, the warriors started to fight, the sky started to move, and the winds started to howl as they did on that day. The sky gradually got darken in his mind as more and more clansmen and waring opposers came to the cold earth. He could make out all who died, his brother's friend, his uncle, and his nephew, they all wieghed heavily on him, and he feel into a deeper sorrow and pain. I dont know if I can bare it again. Everything... just magnified from the reality. Why, why mind do you torture me so... please... Rane thought, as he dropped to his knees in slow motion and everyone slowed down. Then the light that shown, it was an aura. No regular Aura, the aura of the one you should watch in every dream, or the aura of those truely close to you. Rane lifted his head and saw Myst, his childhood love. Tears, undescribable tears for the reasons of a person to weep over a lost love. He watched her fight, and he saw the younger one of himself next to her, secretly protecting her, and guiding her to safety. The aura was silenced in an instant, before the moment that plagued, that started, that brought on this pain and suffering, that made him need this 'salvation.' The sky turned red, everything went red, from the look of the clansmen to the waring opposers. Nothing seemed different. The sky blended with the mountains that blended with the red grassy hills, and everyone blended into the grass. He was blind, he could no see, nothing allowed him to see anything. Anger, got to him, rage took over. Sadness compelled these two furious emotions, as Myst hit the ground her blood, blue in this deep red, splattered all around, nothing mattered, nothing changed, nothing moved... "At times in desperation, the heart calls out. It stops any obstacle, gives power to stop any foes, and it will continue to fight, As long as it can." As Rane let out that scream as he clenched his fists in the blinding red and blue of all he saw, everything began to have movement, but it was all as if in slow motion at first. He noticed that his scream went unheard in this battle, that would've had thousands upon thousands sparks and clanks going every second. But all those near him, stopped and noticed his RAGE, this RAGE that scared his clansmen and terrified the waring opposers. Rane soon knew nothing of allies, comrades, family, friends; only just enemies, everyone was an enemy. Everyone who knew him, backed off and tried to get some good distance in before his plea of life, his scream; would be finished. And at the instant it finished, the emotions he felt took over, and he became the back seat driver in his body. This raged slashed, this anger clawed, this sadness cried, and this feeling hurt deeper than anything else. In a minute a hundred would be dead, who they were, where they belonged it didn't matter to the emotions, he just wanted justice, he just wanted Myst back. As his body and emotions ravaged the sanctatity of his character, he felt scars be imbedded on his heart, his mind, and his soul. And as soon as he could reach back for control from the backseat he did, but the battle was already over, and the opposers where all gone. He realized that, he did something no one else could do, he decimated everyone around him, except those of his clansmen that fleed. Falling to the ground in self pity, in guilt, in even deeper sorrow, and depression. There was no puddle of blood around him, just an endless river of tears. He wanted it to end, he hated this torture, he wanted to end it, he wanted to wake up. It was over and he wondered why the dream remained to torture his already scarred heart, soul, and mind. And then, the world began to fall apart, first the sky would fall changing from its red to a deeper blue, the same with the mountains, the hills, and the people. His dream was ending, soon he would wake up... He wanted to wake up soo bad. "RANE! RANE! Are you alright!? RANE!!!" screamed Celes as she shook the man, who had been asleep for nearly 2 1/2 days It now was a contest to see who could wake him. When he stirred and awoke to that face that he comforted some odd nights ago, he felt relaxed and some of the lighter scars left. "Thank god you are alive, people have been wondering what happened to you," she said out clearly and kinda worriedly. "How did you sleep? You kept screaming, and making noises and everything that a personw ould in a nightmare. How did you stay asleep?" No answer would come from Rane, he had gone through his redemption, he paid for his sin once more. More than he should've but, now it should and was gone from his mind once again, only to be recalled to tell the tale. But no one ever heard the tale, it was kept a secret from all...
