mark's tassie trip

This is what happened on my Tasmanian weekend - as reported by Mark.

On the 5th of may I left Melbourne at 10:30am and arrived in Launceston at about 12:40pm. Once picking up my luggage I was offered a lift back into the city by an elderly Launceston lady. She took me right to my hotel. It saved on a bus fare. Once arriving at my hotel ( The Inn Keeper colonial inn ) I went and had a quick look around the city, not that there was a lot to see. I went to one of the parks they had and it was near the middle of the city, it was called city park and in this park they had monkeys in it. That was one thing I was surprised to see. After looking around the city and doing a little bit of shopping I went to training at 3:30pm. At training I met up with Greg and Trevor. For you who don't know who Greg is, he is the doorman at our Melbourne crows games, and Trevor does merchandising with the club. It was only a quick training session, but the people got to mingle with the players and get autographs. After training Greg, Trevor and I went back to their hotel which was the Novetel the same hotel as the players were staying in. At the hotel we decided that we would go out for the night. So Greg called up his friend from Launceston and we met up in the city. From here we went out to a restaurant for tea, and then went to one of the pubs. At the pub we met up with all the trainers, by the end of the night witch was around 2:00am everyone had had enough, so they went back to their hotel, and I went back to mine. The next day was game day. I got to the ground about 1:00pm. After finding my seat on the wing, I sat down and started to watch the pre match game between the Tassie mariners and the Geelong falcons. The Geelong falcons ended up winning but Tassie put up a good fight. The crowd was really getting behind them. Then it was time for the main game. Hawthorn were the first team out. They ran through their banner, and then not long after Adelaide came out, but we didn't have a banner. Everybody stood up for the national anthem, and then the big cheer went around the ground. It was time for the bounce. Adelaide had a good first quarter, but then after that nothing really went our way. Except for our comeback in the third quarter. I thought that we might get up, but in the end our lack of goals ended up costing us the game. The siren went and all the Hawthorn supporters cheered, when leaving the ground all the Hawthorn supporters were singing the theme song. So off to the after match function I went. Which was at the Novetel. All the payers turned up to it, but there weren't many supporters there. Around 50-100 I think. This made it better because you could mingle with the players more. Unlike when in Melbourne where only 1 or 2 players come out and in Melbourne it is very crowded. The players were there for around 40mins. After the function they boarded a bus which was taking them back to the airport. I went back to my hotel afterwards and watched a bit of TV. The next day was an early morning up at 7:30am so I could get the 8:30 bus to the airport. When arriving at the airport and booking my luggage in I was told that the plane was going to be delayed by 1 hour, because of the whether in Melbourne. By the time the plane landed and we all got boarded on to the plane it didn't leave until 11:30am, and it was supposed to leave at 9:55am. Then if it wasn't delayed enough when arriving in Melbourne they told us we would have to wait about 20mins for the stairs to come. So the trip home was a bit of a disaster, but the whole weekend was fun and I would definitely do it again. Hopefully they play there again next year.

Thanks Mark!
