the sydney trek
Sydney. Such a picturesque city, full of fun and exciting things to do. Little did Sydney know what it was in for when four Adelaide Crow's supporters from Victoria decided to make the trek to this lovely Australian city. Where do I begin? I guess the start is a good place! Please correct me, or let me know Marty, Sarah and Mark if I make an error in memory or forget something important.
So what is an early morning? Well for me early is 8 or 9 am. Poor Marty and Mark were up on the road by 4 Saturday morning, making the good old trip to Bendigo, a little out of the way, to pick up me. Mark and I had never been to Sydney before so we were all ready to check out the sites. Marty told me, 'Yeah be ready about 6 or 6:30am. Nah better be ready at 6 coz we will be there.' There I was, ready at 6, and what do you know, they didn't arrive 'til 6:30! Oh well, so we were off. You might be wondering about Sarah right now. Yeah we forgot her! Nah, Sarah was the smart one who flew both ways.
As Marty had never drove this way before he was relying on me to get him out of Bendigo. I really don't think him and Mark had much confidence in me to tell you the truth. :) The conversation was flowing, around footy and other issues like finding Violet Town; home of the band Killing Heidi. We were supposed to pass through this town but suddenly we were 5 km out of Shep. We had already missed a turn off!!! Marty thought it might be a good idea to go back and find it but Mark and I persuaded him to go through Shep instead. Where on earth could Violet Town be??? Next stop Albury. (Should have been Wodonga, right Mark! Home of the AFL store) Oh and time for a stop at Maccas...lol. Mark and Marty had their feed while I rang my boss to let him know I was sick......hmmmm.....so so sick. So all was well, the boys were fed and we were off again. The trip was full of enthralling conversations, including a great game of eye spy and guess which footballer I am thinking about. Mark was the eye spy champ. Who calls reflectors on the road cat eyes??? I think we managed to go through the whole AFL footballers as well.
Sydney Trip Continued: (By Martin)
Well after going through all the footy players the conversation more focused on
how the Crows would go in Sydney we were all pretty optimistic, we had a look at
the time and we really needed to get a wriggle on as we had to be at Sydney
Airport to pick Sarah up at 4:00pm so we picked up the pace a little and along
with that a large chunk of truck tyre:) we were a little concerned after hitting
the truck tyre as cars were going past us they were pointing at us but I think
they thought the site of our car with six foot poles across the roof was pretty
funny don't ask me why. Anyway we arrived in Sydney and discovered their
way of paying on a tolled road, now in Melbourne we have great technology called
an E-Tag but in Sydney you have to have the correct change and just throw it
into the machine and then it lets you go through a boom gate mmmmm yeah very
good:) We made it on time to pick Sarah up from Sydney Airport, and then
it was off to find our hotel.
Now this was our next eye opening experience the people that
run the hotel, they really had no idea what they were doing they couldn't spell
our names they hadn't organised our rooms properly what a show it took about 25
mins for them to sort it out my goodness so yes eventually we sorted everything
out:) We all got changed and headed out for tea at the Holdfast Bay Hotel
(think it was called that) very enjoyable meal indeed, on the way back into the
city and after getting lost quite a bit we were trying to get some good photos
of Sydney Harbour Bridge mmmmm yeah but couldn't find a decent spot to take any
from so we had a photo shoot on a small beach we found, anyway we decided to
head back to the hotel and catch a cab to Star City Casino which was very nice, Mark
and Sarah went on a gambling spurge they wanted there free ten dollar poky
credits so both of them got membership to the casino Mark bolted through his ten
dollars while Sarah used hers nice and slowly, after this and a couple of beers
we wanted to try and find the Mono Rail and we did get on something that we
thought was the Mono Rail but nope it was just a tram, ohh well we walked around
a bit near the National Martime Museum and then decided it was time to hit the sack, so
we jumped into evil kenivels cab and somehow managed to get home all in one piece
phew:).
We awake its GAME DAY we had to be over at the SCG by 10:30am to pole up our banner, we
parked at the front of the SCG and told the security guard we would be half an
hr setting up our banner and unloading our stuff went inside and set up our
banner and came out to go get something to eat low and behold no car
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh were had my car gone in this big huge city my god I asked
the security guard where my car had gone and he said they towed it away with a
lovely smirk on his face, I had to find a tow truck driver and ask for a number
to call which would tell me where my car was yeah well they were no help and I don't
think me abusing them helped either but I was in a panic, eventually the tow
truck driver helped us it had been towed four blocks away so off I go to find
the car eventually did and to my surprise I haven't received a bill for the
towing either:)
So after getting over that we headed to Maccas in the city for some tucker before the BIG GAME found somewhere safe to park in the city and we ate our Maccas and had a photo shoot with Ronald Macdonald (himself) and head back to the car on the way back to the car passed some mmmm very dumb fire fighters who first told us we are going to lose and then in all seriousness asked us who we were playing um who do you reckon we were playing we are Sydney there is only one footy team in Sydney so mmmm yes a few fries short of a Happy Meal I fear. Game time got back the SCG securely parked the car and organised the banner and headed around to go out on the ground now this banner mmmmmmm what a disaster the players caught us by surprise by coming out early we weren't ready mmmmmmm so yeah a bit of a dodgy effort but ohh well headed back to our seats for the BIG GAME Sydney Vs Adelaide it was a pretty even first quarter but after that Sydney blew us away losing by 52 points we then headed to the aftermatch which was quite good on the way to the aftermatch ran into a very drunk Greg Champion and I mean very drunk most of the players attended the aftermatch which was great to see it was time to pack up our stuff and whist doing that we had the privilege of meeting Christine Anu had a few photos with her, we finished packing up then went back to the hotel to grab Alli and Sarahs stuff and then to Sydney Airport to send the girls back home, after the girls had gone Mark and I headed back to the hotel for a rest I was buggered we then went out and got petrol and more Maccas and then headed back to the hotel to go to sleep we still had to drive the 900kms back to Melbourne. Left Sydney at about 8:00am the next morning and stopped at Yass for some KFC no way were we having Maccas made it back to Melbourne at about 5:00pm,all in all a very good weekend had by all and there was always something happing to keep us entertained:) (And they eventually found Violet Town!!!)
