a win at last, but what a day!
When it rains, it pours! And thank God it did. The catch cry for the day was, "Here comes the rain!" and that was said with a big smile on all our faces!!! Who knew the Crows would be so good in the wet. Carlton had trouble holding the ball most of the time.
In regards to the cheersquad, everyone should be congratulated on an excellent effort; Martin especially. The last two efforts of banner organising proved to be quite a debacle. Not having a lot of preparation time and people new to the procedure did not help. This time things were looking grim. Rain and crepe paper do not mix. The Carlton cheersquad soon found that out, their players had to run through a banner full of holes! Lucky for Adelaide, the banner withstood the weather and remained intact. But I doubt that anyone likes to be covered in red and blue water!!!
The game was great! We'd all agree on that. Vardy, Roo, everyone was sensational! The player's effort and commitment were beyond words. And did we care that we were wet? Of course not....all we wanted to do was sing the theme song and celebrate at the end of the game. While Martin and Mark decided to run across Optus Oval with our Crows flags flying high in the air.
Only one thing dampened the day. The cheersquad was refused entry to the after match function due to health and safety reasons. We even got a mention in the newspaper! Read below:
"The victory soured for many Crows supporters after the
match
when, among others, the cheer squad was refused entry into the
Jack Wrout Room for post-match celebrations.
Health and safety concerns were given as the reason. The players
were granted entry, but fans, including Greg Champion of the
Coodabeen Champions, said many fans were disillusioned when told
they could queue and enter only when others left."
Once inside though, we were cheered by fellow supporters. The atmosphere was electric and Gary looked extremely pleased. Not all players attended, but those that did, had a smile on their face. Let's hope that this is the start of something good. Look to the future, but learn from the past. The Crows are on their way!
PS. Special thanks to Gayle for keeping me and my bag dry : )
