First Days of School
Script
Before Class:
Before the first
day of school, my classroom will be neat and orderly. I will try to develop an atmosphere that is
inviting, bright and warm. If available,
I will have gone over my roll to make myself familiar with my students’
names. If the school host a “Meet the
Teacher Night” before school begins, I will attempt to call and invite as many
parents and students as possible. I will
arrange a seating chart and display it on the overhead.
Greeting At Door:
Before the bell
rings, I will be standing in the hall, right outside the class door. I will shake the hand of all my students,
look them in the eye and instruct them to locate their seat, read over the
handouts placed at their desk and inform them that once class begins we will
discuss them.
Welcome:
“Good Morning
Class!! Welcome to Class! I am honored
to have you as my students.”
I will properly
introduce myself with appropriate information of my interests, family, and
where I’m from. I would continue by
informing the class that I have high expectations for all of my students and
that I take my role of providing them the best forum to succeed in reaching
those expectations.
Getting to Know You
Activity:
Each person will
tell the class his/her name, birthday and one of their favorites such as food,
color, movie, etc. Each person is to
greet the class with an interjected voice and funny script (i.e. “HOWDY!” “Hellooo
People). Afterwards, the entire class
with interact to play “BINGO Icebreaker”.
Syllabus:
I will direct the
students’ attention to the course syllabus handout, they initially found at
their desks. The course syllabus will
contain my name and contact information along with the supplies needed for
class, attendance and tardy policies, and outline of the grading scale.
Class Procedures:
Beginning Class
Step 1. Explain
The first 3
minutes after morning bell rings the class is allowed time to prepare for
class. Lights will flick off/on to
indicate 1 minute warning.
(all items there
are not needed are put away).
Step 2. Rehearse
The class will
practice daily to ensure proper procedure:

At
the beginning of each class for the first week we will repeat the procedure 2-3
times each morning, giving examples and nonexamples
of proper form.
·
We
will conduct a mock trial periodically during class- 3 to 4 students will judge the class
and will acknowledged incorrect actions.
·
Rerun
the mock trial to allow corrections to be made.
Step 3. Reinforce
Examples of
correctly cleared work spaces and prepared students will be acknowledged.
Class Dismissal
Step 1. Explain
The class is dismissed
only by the instructor. Students are
dismissed either individually or by groups.
Step 2. Rehearse
The class will
practice periodically throughout day to ensure proper procedure:

At
the beginning of each class for the first week we will repeat the procedure 2-3
times each day, giving examples and non-examples of proper form.
·
3-5
minutes prior to needing to leave class we will practice the procedure and
immediately stop, correct, and redo the procedure.
Step 3. Reinforce
Examples of
proper form will be acknowledged.
Turning In Work
Step 1. Explain
Bins are placed
in a designated area. All completed work
is to be placed in bins to ensure they are received in a timely manner.
Step 2. Rehearse
The class will
practice daily to ensure proper procedure:

Will
ask random student to inform class of procedure. Incorrect steps will be corrected by other
students
·
Will
check bin for papers that are not completed or improper heading and will allow
student opportunity to correct and resubmit assignment.
Step 3. Reinforce
Examples of
proper form will be acknowledged.

Policies:
Our class will
operate under the philosophy that we will respect each other as we would
appreciate others to respect us. This is
to include:
Honesty- Although
cooperative group work will be allowed on many occasions, each student is
responsible for his/her on work by this cheating is not tolerated. Everyone is responsible their own level of
success.
Be Kind- Rude and insensitive
remarks and/or behavior is completely not permitted. Again no one will commit any offense towards
anyone that they would not like in return.
Rules:
As a class, we
will discussion possible rules that you (the students) may feel are needed to
ensure the most positive classroom environment. Consequences will be
established in the same manner. It will
be kept in mind, that all consequences will be equal to the offense.
Class Dismissal:
“Thank you for
this great day. I have thoroughly
enjoyed my first day of teaching and am looking forward to seeing all of you
tomorrow.” Class will prepare for
dismissal as practiced.
