Li comes from Plums. Mei Ling is just a girls name, but the kanji for Mei comes from the kanji for beautiful and the kanji for Ling comes from the kanji for bell chimes. The translation of the kanji in Japanese is similar. Mei becomes strawberry and Ling becomes bell. Li remains as Plum.
