Meito Daiko Perform In Okayama Castle

Meito Daiko gave two one-hour performances on the grass area in front of Okayama Castle on October 19th. It was a beautiful sunny day, and unusually warm for October. The audience seemed to enjoy it, and the performers only complaint was having to carry the drums up the steps of the castle gates. Imagine how hard it must have been to carry the castle foundation stones up the same hill 400 years ago!

The repertoire for the morning was Fukuoka no Ichi, an extended version of JinbureDaiko on the OhDaiko big drum, Shutsujin, Buchiawase, and Miyake
and HachijoBayashi, Miyake, YataiBayashi, and Fukkatsueno Tsuchioto in the afternoon. An encore piece was requested both times and a rendition of Taiza was added to each.

Both performances included a chance for members of the audience to "Come and Try Taiko" and we're pretty sure that everyone enjoyed it, especially the opportunity to have a photograph taken with a taiko in front of the castle!

Following the sell-out success of the 20th Anniversary Concert in 2008, Meito Daiko will hold a special concert at Okayama ShiminKaikan in February 2010. The concert will center on the history of Okayama Castle.
