Mr.
Joseph Morissette, a former resident of Notre Dame de la Salette died
at the home of his daughter, Miss Rachel Morissette, 388 Charles St.,
on Wednesday, May 6th, 1959, following a long illness. He was in this
72nd year.
Born August 14th, 1887, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Theophile
Morissette (Louise Deslauriers). He was educated in local schools and
was married at Poltimore in 1915 to the former Anna Thom who survives.
Mr. Morissette was a former by profession, having retired in 1944. In
the fall of 1958 he moved to Buckingham to reside with his daughter.
A former mayor of Notre Dame de la Salette, he had also served as a
councillor. He was a parishioner of Notre Dame de la Salette Church and
a member of the League of the Sacred Heart.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Hector and Ovide of Notre Dame
de la Salette ; three daughters, Mrs. Alfred Bastien (Annette) of Notre
Dame du Laus, Mrs. Theodore Arsenault of Shalolth, B.C. and Miss Rachel
Morissette of Buckingham ; five brothers, Philias and Ovide of
Buckingham, Remi and Paul of Halleybury and Palma of Gatineau ; three
sisters, Mrs Josephat Daoust of Masson, Mrs Arnold Meilleur of Ferme
Neuve and Mrs. Auguste Lacasse of Ste. Agathe. Nine grandchildren also
survive.
The remains rested at the Honore Cadieux Funeral Home, 322 Main Street,
until Saturday, May 9th, when the funeral was held to Notre Dame de la
Salette Church for requiem high mass at 10 o'clock.
The body was met at the door of the church by Rev. Father J. Hamelin
who also sang the mass assisted by Canon J. Lombard, p.p., of Masson as
deacon and Rev. Father Seguin, curate at Masson, as sub-deacon.
Following the ceremony interment was made in the parish cemetery with Rev. Father Hamelin reciting the grave-side prayers.
Serving as pallbearers were Messrs Anatole Bouladier, Jean Morin and Jacques, Albert, George and Gaston Morissette.
Many mass cards, messages of sympathy and beautiful floral offerings
were received by the bereaved family among the latter being tributes
from A. F. Bouladier & Co. Insurance Office, Canadian Westinghouse
Gang and the Booster Club of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., St.
