William Bill Hayka, aged 81, of 452 Third St. E., Fort Frances,
Ontario, passed away suddenly at his residence on Friday, September 21,
2007. Bill was born May 14, 1926, in Arnes, Manitoba, to the late Peter
and Mary Hayka.
He was a member of St. Peters and Pauls Greek Catholic Church in Arnes,
Manitoba. In his early years, he worked as a Commercial Fisherman on
Lake Winnipeg for 12 years.
On August 28, 1965, he was united in marriage to the former Annette
Meilleur. The family moved to Fort Frances, and Bill purchased his own
heavy equipment and began working as a heavy equipment operator, and
later for the Ministry of Natural Resources.
For enjoyment, he liked playing cards, and loved the outdoors
especially fishing. Bill's first love was his family and friends that
meant the world to him. His children and grandchildren were the love of
his life. He was predeceased by one sister Anne Wiebe.
Bill is survived by his wife Annette Hayka of Fort Frances, ON; one
daughter, Vanassa Hayka and husband Robert Wood of Fort Frances, ON;
one son Kevin Hayka and wife Hedy Ninke of Vancouver, BC; two
grandsons, Ian and Aaron Selman, both of Dryden, ON; three brothers,
Steve Hayka and wife Jean of Winnipeg, MB, John Hayka and wife Jean of
Arnes, MB, and Tony Hayka and Jocelyn of Arnes, MB; one sister, Millie
Lefko of Winnipeg, MB; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place at Rainy River Cremation Services in
International Falls, Minnesota. A memorial service will be held on
Saturday, September 29, 2007, at 2:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in
Fort Frances, Ontario, with Father Francis Pudicherry officiating.
