Setting

Dean's life is set in the low districts of the Australian city backdrop. Australian ideals are commonly upheld in society, where a couple of mates can visit the local pub and down themselves a couple of schooners. The common folk are friendly with this type of simple life.

However, Dean has his own troubles in this lifestyle, seen through the way he had grown up and of what he had made himself to become.

Story Of My Life

DEAN MURPHY WALKER

I never really liked to talk about myself. But then again, this isn't exactly talking. The name's Dean -- Dean Murphy Walker. But just call me Dean. I'm not too fond of the formal thing. I don't even know why my name was this long to begin with. Anyway, I'm pretty much a bloke who likes to visit the pub every once in a while. But I'm not a heavy drinker. I watch my schooners every now and then.

My life has had its ups and downs. Right now, I'm in a small rut. But I at least still have my mates, and my ol' Commie. But the workdays seem to get longer and harder, which depends on what job I'm on really. I'm not a slave to one job. You can find me practically anywhere. Call it freedom of choice, or a last resort, but this is how I choose to live my life.

FAMILY

My family is my number one priority, even though my mates think I don't give a damn. The whole family gathering thing has become long gone in my day. We've kind of seperated, you know, on hiatus for the mean time. I don't see much of them these days. My parents, that is. But it's not like I choose to. I do visit them to pay my respects every year, on every anniversary. I guess, it had become less frequent than I used to. It's more or less the fact that it doesn't feel right visiting them without Uncle Gray.

Uncle Gray has always been there for me. He's a good bloke. If he wasn't family, he'd be the best mate to invite over to a barbie. Then again, he usually invites me over for a barbie anyway. He's the one guy I turn to when my life feels like it's going down the drain. Sometimes I feel a little guilty for intruding during his retirement, but he doesn't mind the company. At least I have the courtesy to visit him, unlike a certain someone.

I haven't seen my brother for the past two years, I think. If you ever see a guy with a suit and constantly wearing glasses, that's him. Although, I think that isn't even enough of a description to go by. I guess, you should find someone that looks like me in a suit. That's him. We're identical twins. You could say, we had a fall out and have yet to fix our problems. But you know, he has his reasons, and I have mine. Uncle Gray does talk to him now and then by telephone, but he doesn't have the courtesy to visit him instead. If he doesn't want to listen to my voice of reason, that is his problem.

FRIENDS + WORKMATES

Let me tell you that there's never a day that goes by without my mates right beside me.

Best mate of them all? Now that is an easy question. Jacko wins by far.

HIS CAR

The ol' Commie. Funny thing to tell you about my car. It's not just my car. It's also my bedroom. My car has officially turned into my home after a rough run-in with my ex-landlord. I don't have to give you details on that little thing, but let's just say that money doesn't grow on trees. Although sometimes I wished it did.

My car isn't exactly the Ritz or anything, but it beats having to live on the streets. The only downfall would be the petrol problem. Yeah, having to wait for Cheap-Ass Tuesday every week to fuel her up gets to be a pain every now and then. But she's my pride and joy. I've had her since I was a teenager and she's always been there for me.

It isn't all too bad sleeping inside. I just have to mind the fact that I've outgrown the seats a little. If I had problems, my mates wouldn't mind me bunking at their place for a night, you know, for the essentials, like a TV.
