The Meigs SWCD acquired the conservation area on June 13, 2003, with assistance of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Clean Ohio Green Space Conservation Fund. The Meigs SWCD has steadily been busy making improvements to the property including the construction of a gravel parking lot, a 1.5 mile loop trail, wetland and native grass and wildflower plantings.
We at the Meigs Soil and Water Conservation District look forward to watching the property bloom and grow. Feel free to check out the Meigs SWCD Conservation Area and walk the Pauline H. Atkins Memorial Trail. As always, take only photographs and leave only footprints.
Future plans include a handicapped accessible walking/jogging trail, a picnic shelter and restroom facilities.
The Conservation Area is open to the public and permission is not necessary for general use, hiking, bird watching or other non-consumptive activities.
Group and school activities including field trips, field days or other outings should be scheduled Meigs SWCD Education Coordinator Jenny Ridenour who may be able to assist you or help avoid potential scheduling conflicts. Call 740.992.4282 for more information.
Contributions for maintenance and improvements to the Meigs SWCD Conservation Area may be made in care of the Meigs SWCD at 33101 Hiland Road, Pomeroy OH 45769.
