White Flower explained (sort of)

This one's for Sekka. Of course- it's about snow.

I can't tell you about the feeling behind this poem. I think it came out of 
the collective unconcious, because this isn't some burning issue with 
me or anything. Really, it's all Laruku's fault.

L'Arc-en-Ciel is a Japanese pop/rock band that Miko adores. They have 
some very happy pretty songs with some very strong imagery. One of
the songs is "Snowdrop,"a favorite of K-chan's, which I can only describe 
as "hopeful." Another song is their New Year's 2000 release, "Neo 
Universe," which has lots of imagery about flying, sparkling, and heading 
for the future full steam ahead. It's actually a very strong song, rather
than all light and fluffy. Finally, there's "Flower," which is the lead singer's
concept of love. It has both pain and beauty in it- my favorite combination!

So what actually happened was... I was minding my own business reading 
something (fanfic? Bina's stories?) when Neo Universe came on, so I 
stopped and sang along. The song reminded me of seeing a seagull fly 
through the falling snow the evening before. One thing led to another, and 
by the time Flower came on (5 songs later), I was furiously typing stanza 3.

Snowdrop never actually played. It didn't have to- I can sing it in my sleep.

The premise for the video of Snowdrop seems to be that the band members 
are frozen by scientists and they wake up in the future. Since the song is 
about one's future self, it works well. So in a way, the poem's theme might 
vaguely have been inspired by the video, though I can't say for sure.
