This year I will be returning phone calls Seventh Period between 2:25 and 3:10. If you leave a message for a return call, please give a number where you can be reached at this time.
Students will be given a textbook the first day of school. They will need to bring the text, paper, and pencil every day to class. Every student must have some sort of folder or binder for their class notebook. Three ring binders are usually the best to help students to develop their organizational skills. In addition, if students wish to use a calculator for everyday arithmetic calculations, they will need to bring one to class.
Graph paper is provided for graphing activities. Students may use their own if they prefer. There are links available for students use to print graph paper. We have permission from the website owner to use this site.
There is usually an assignment given on Monday through Thursday. The students are supposed to copy the problem, show the work they used to solve the problem, and give the answer. If they do not copy the problem, or show how they arrived at the answer, they will not receive credit for the assignment. If they do not attempt EVERY problem, they will not receive full credit for their homework. We do go over the answer to every homework problem the next day. We thouroughly go over certain problems that I choose and any problems that students have questions for. It is very important that students correct their work when they do a problem incorrectly, not just write the correct answer.
Student may use any calculator for everyday classroom use. If students wish to use a calculator for basic math every day, they will have to bring one. We will be using the TI 83+ for some classroom lessons. There is a classroom set in room 211, so there is a calculator available for each student to use in class for those activites. If students do not have a calculator of their own, they may rent one from the school ($15 per year),or they may come in before school or after school to use one of the classroom calculators if they do not finish their work in class. If students use their time wisely, they should be able to complete required calculator activities during class. If they are absent, it is important that they arrange to make the work up as soon as possible.
Rental of Calculators
Students need to see Ms. Steinbeck in Room 220 if they wish to rent a calculator. The cost is very reasonable. A contract must be signed and returned and the fee paid before a calculator will be issued. There are very few available for rental, so it is important to ask for one as soon as possible.
Student can earn bonus points:
if they are not tardy during the quarter they earn bonus points.
if they do not leave the room they earn bonus points.
if they bring their signed midterm computer printout back within two days they earn bonus points.
if they solve one of the math contests from the links page they earn bonus points if their name is posted on the site.
