Thank you, to all of you, you saved our butts more than once! Couple of things that I learned about the Patriot that they let me share at an air show later after the war. That missile accelerates at an unreal rate of speed, breaking the sound barrier within feet of leaving the 14' launch tube. That's 0 to 740 mph in 14'.. now that's fast! Also (and this can be found on line so I know it not a secret) the missile was developed for anti aircraft and was later used to shoot other missiles down. Also they don't directly "hit" the other missile. They explode in a proximity to the target and knock out the guidance system (and maybe more cause the other missiles had a tendency to explode after a patriot attacked one). |
