| One night time Patriot missile explosion killing a SCUD and a full moon to boot! Couple of things about SCUD missiles. They basically came to us in two formats: with and without an "extra" payload. Although if you were outside when the Patriot got to the SCUD missile you could tell by the explosion (and this is a guess I don't actually know) weather it had and an extra payload (chemicals or biological agents) by how long the explosion hung in the air. Something that chemical agents all have in common (at least, that I new of, at the time) was that they will all burn. So if the explosion took a moment or two to "burn out" that meant that there was extra fuel to burn. Some SCUD's exploded and then went out very quickly, some SCUD's hung in the sky burning like a fireball suspended in the air for a moment or two. It is a SWAG that those had an extra payload on them. This is a photo of one of those that hung in the sky for a moment or two. |
