Home sweet home for part of the war. This was in side a place where they stored large hunks of meat (sides of camel and cow) in huge freezers. We (the US military) had apparently rented (rumor had it at least that they were rented) several of the freezers and turned "up" the temperature so that we could live inside of them. Business when on as usual around us while we all did our thing. Necessity is the mother of invention. the M16 rifle on the left of the photo is leaning up against a chest of drawers that I made out of MRE (Meals Ready to Eat) boxes and duct tape. I slept next to the chaplains assistant who did something that I thought was just cool as all get out. If you'll look on the right side of the photo you'll notice a mandolin leaning up against the wall. That was the instrument he brought with him. He played "Stairway to Heaven" on it and it was one of the Coolest versions of that song I've ever heard to date. Notice the photocopy of the scorpion I found on roving guard duty in the upper right hand side of the picture. That mutha was HUGE!!! Now I grew up in the Mojave Desert and I've seen some huge scorpions in my time but that definitely take s the cake. I tried to kill him by drowning him in water so that his body would be intact and I could preserve him (I didn't have the issue then with killing as I do now.. go figure..lol) and I had left him in the water for several days and taken him out and taken several photo copy's of him and was letting him dry out. One of his legs wasn't quite the way I wanted it so I moved it back to where I wanted it ...... and it moved back.. Ok.. so I moved it again.... and it moved back again... ok well at that point I put him back in the water along with several cleaning agents cause he was STILL ALIVE!!. I have no idea what happened to him after that as I had to go across the desert for a while to another point and I don't remember taking him with me.
