| Some days, the Giver would be in too much pain from the memories and would tell Jonas to go back home. This was one of those days, but he begged Jonas to take some of the pain. Jonas quickly removed his tunic and got onto the bed. The Giver transmits the memory of war to him. After that, Jonas didn't want to go back there, but he knew he had no choice. For the next few days, he gave him only memories of happiness. One day, the Giver gave Jonas his favorite memory, the memory of love and warmth. We know it as Christmas. Jonas was very curious about love. When Jonas was playing with his friends they started a game of war. Jonas refused to play because he remembered that war was a real thing. The next day, Jonas ask the Giver about the Receiver of Memory that was selected ten years ago, but failed. It turns out that it was a girl named Rosemary. One day, the Giver had given Rosemary a painful memory and she had applied for release. She was never seen again. That day, the Giver decided to show him the releasing of a twin (it was his fathers turn to do it). They found the lighter one, put a syringe into his head, and he died. Jonas didn't want to go back home, so he stayed that night with the Giver. They talked late into the night and decided that things needed to change, so they made a plan. The night before the December Ceremony (midnight), he would leave his dwelling with an extra set of clothes. He would leave a letter to his parents saying he was going for an early morning bike ride along the river and he would be back for the Ceremony. He would leave his clothes beside the river and sneak into the Annex Room. Then he would make his way onto his journey to Elsewhere. Jonas soon found out that they have decided to release Gabriel. So he decided to take him with him. That night, he took his father's bike because it has a child seat, and left his bike with the river. After days of travel, they experienced snow for the first time. To survive, they used the memories of sunshine, heat, and warmth. Soon after, they herd singing and music. But perhaps it was only and echo. |
