| November 28th 2002 ~Lousy Bagel Good Thanksgiving~ |
| So twenty years have just gone completely down the drain...all because I ate some turkey. That's right. I, Meg Drobniak, have now offically eaten turkey. Yes, there is photographic evidence, thanks to RP. Yes, I enjoyed it Yes, I know what this means... I can no longer bitch about Thanksgiving. For about six years now I've refused to celebrate Thanksgiving on the rational of why bother to take part in a holiday based on a food I don't eat? Yeah, that means shit now. Damn it... Let me back up a little, though, because I should explain WHY I've never actually celebrated Thanksgiving. In my family, no one but my dad eats turkey, so we never had it. We just usually went out to brunch and called it a day. But then once I moved to PA, Thanksgiving became just another tradition (if you can call what we did traditional) that got screwed up, so out of bitterness, I quit Thanksgiving for the aforementioned reasons. But then the saga ended... I must say that not only was this my first offical Thanksgiving with turkey and family (not my family, but a big one that I might as well be a part of anyway) and friends but it was the BEST Thanksgiving/Thursday ever. I kicked off my morning by meeting Tracey and having some sorely needed girl-talk while we waited for Jon to go the breakfast at the high school. Jon put it best: "They dicked us over for three years and all we got was this lousy bagel to make up for it" The renovations on my old high school are FINALLY done, despite the fact that the entire school should have been finished my senior year. We wandered around to check out everything and you know, it looks great. I really wish I could have went to high school there, because the school I graduated from didn't look anything like that! After the breakfast, it was time for the traditional Walk-Around-the-Track-and-Avoid-People-You-Hate, which was once again pretty successful. One person amused me terribly when he/she said "Wow, I haven't seen you in about 2 years!" and I thought to myself "There's a really good reason for that..." I visited Kane in announcing box and it was all nice and redone and I was very jealous. I made a contact at WFMZ, which could make for a possible internship in the future. It was good to catch up with Kane and to defrost every so often through out the game. Then it was over to the Kolle's for Thanksgiving, where I ate TURKEY. I promised Ruth on Tuesday that I would try some for her and she drug her camera out and took an action shots of the whole turkey eating process. Of course, I got made fun of for eating the "Traditional Mugsy Feast" which according to the family is one plate for the week. After dinner, Tray, Jon, Ruth and I made a KMart run, which turned into comforter diving in one of the aisles and Jon and I riding the little kids merry-go-round screaming hysterically while Ruth took pictures and Tray pretended not to know us. It's always good to be with people who have see you at your dumbest and love you all the more for it! The purpose of going to KMart was to get a sheet to finish Tracey's quilt with, which is what we worked on after our adventure. Yes, that's right. Meg ate turkey and sewed all on the same day! What most people don't know is that when I was younger I sewed all the time and I still am actually a closet-domestic...but shh! I'm not ready to come out yet! And after hours and hours of sewing and trying to thread big fat thread into the tiny eyes of needles (only to end up throwing both and Jon and yelling at him to do it for us) it was time to quit and sleep and dream about my first Thanksgiving ever. You know, I think they should make this whole Thanksgiving thing an annual event. (pictures of the whole turkey eating thing to come) |
