The Remote Power Card Reset version (RPCR) is a 1/4 slot card that plugs
into an XT/AT type computer. This card reboots the computer should it
become locked up for hardware or software reasons. Unlike competitive
units the RPCR cannot be disabled by any program or virus.

The RPCR contains a controller with a Real Time Clock that is seperate from
the computer. When the controller reaches terminal count it causes the
same effect as pressing the Reset button. Reboot can be prevented by
accessing the Reset Inhibit Address. This causes the timeout to begin
again. The computer will only be reset if this routine does not run, such
as when the computer is locked up.

The card installs in one of the motherboard slots. Since the PC Bus
has no polarizing keys it is very important that the component side of
the card be facing the same direction as the other adapter cards.

The only connection to the card other than the PC Bus is a thin wire
with a connector on the end. This wire plugs onto one of the
motherboard pins that go to the Reset button. You can either remove
the cable that goes to the Reset button or splice into it. If the RPCR
does not function then try the other one in the pair. The RPCR signal
is an open-collector transistor so relays, indicators, and other
devices can be activated instead of Reset if necessary.

Testing is simple. With no special software running and the RPCR installed
the computer will reboot once every minute or so. Most computers boot
faster than the Reset Delay period giving AUTOEXEC.BAT enough time to run
the user program or a TSR that "tickles" periodically. During normal
operation the RPCR is cleared at intervals of less than one minute to keep
from rebooting.

If necessary the Reset Delay time can be altered and the Reset Inhibit
Address may be changed via jumpers:

Reset Delay Jumpers: 22-16 = 8 sec
  J9 10 11 12 13 14 15 J22-J14 = 1/8 sec 22-18 = 16 sec
   o o o o o o o 22-15 = 1/4 sec 22-12 = 32 sec
   o o o o o o o 22-21 = 1/2 sec 22-13 = 1 min (default)
 J16 17 18 19 20 21 22 22-20 = 1 sec 22-10 = 2 min
                            22-19 = 2 sec 22-17 = 4 min
                            22-11 = 4 sec 22-9 = 8 min
Reset Inhibit Address:
    J1 J2 J3 J4 121h = J1-J4 2-3 5-6 7-8
     o o o o 181h = 1-2 3-4 5-6 7-8 (default)
     o o o o 221h = 1-4 2-3 5-8 6-7
    J5 J6 J7 J8 281h = 1-2 3-4 5-8 6-7

Several demo programs are included showing how to use the RPCR with
Assembly, BASIC, and C. Source is included. These programs normally
tickle the RPCR to prevent reboot but will intentionally lock up the
computer when a key is pressed. The RPCR will then reboot it!
