    SERIAL MINI-TERM REV G VER 1.4 SPEC SHEET (C) MVS 1999

DESCRIPTION
-----------

The MVS Mini-Term is a 2 line alphanumeric LCD display and 20 customizable
key (MTRM1) or 16 tactile key (MTRM1t) keypad with RS232 interface. Power
for the backlight and LCD is derived from the serial handshake lines. High
contrast "Super Twist II" LCD technology and very low-power backlight mean
visibility in all conditions. The MTRM works with a PC, MVS Single Board
Computer, Single Chip Computer, or any controller with serial ports. The
MTRM1 is also available with I2C, PC keyboard, or SPI port (MTRM1i/p/s).
MTRM2 is a version with a MV8515 Single Chip Computer with BASIC on-board.

MVS PLUG-N-GO means the card can be plugged into a PC for testing and works
right away. The PC is used for power and download. No costly development
kits, cables, or power supplies. Single-wire Multi-drop Long-distance
Network (SMPLNET) is available allowing many modules to stack physically
and talk on one wire. A standard PC RS232 port can also share the wire.
The SMPLNET connector and "half-104" form factor allow stacking with other
MVS cards like the MVSBC1/2, MVSEX1/2, SDRV1, CCC1/2/3, PCD1, etc.. It
also fits nicely into the KPWRBOX2 plastic enclosure with battery holder.

The MTRM1 sends and receives ASCII characters like a standard serial
terminal and requires no peculiar initialization sequences as most other
serial displays and keypads do. Optional commands are used for changing
baud rate, keycodes, fonts, and enabling/disabling multi-drop units.
Keycodes are stored in non-volatile EEPROM so they are retained even when
power is removed.

TRIAL RUN
---------

Plug the MTRM1 into COM1 of a PC and run MVTERM.COM from the DOS prompt
("mvterm 3f8 c /3"). Hit ALT-R to reset and see the sign on message. If
necessary adjust the contrast pot for maximum clarity. Characters typed at
the PC appear on the LCD, keys hit on the MTRM1 show up on the PC screen.

MVS repairs free of charge products suffering from manufacturing defects
for a period of 5 years. This will be done only if it has been determined
by MVS that the product has not been misused (improper voltages, physical
alteration, etc.). Otherwise a minimum service charge is required. In
either case it is necessary to contact MVS with invoice handy for a
Returned Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number before shipping the unit.
