| Orlando's Character: Joe Byrne ...an Irish outlaw, Ned Kelly's best friend. Historically, Joe Byrne was known as the brains of the gangs. He wrote many poems and bush ballads which are still sung today. He was killed in the Glenrowan Inn -- while lifting his helmet in honor of the gang, he was shot in the neck. |

They were an outlaw gang that roamed around Australia for over two wild years (1878 - 1880). Kelly was a clever bandit who created his own "bullet-proof" armor. He was first arrested at age 16 after stealing a horse, but became an outlaw when he killed a police officer for harassing his brother.
