My Grandma Fern, whom my family refers to as " Little Grandma ", and Elvis. This article is from a Green Bay area newspaper. At the time Flaming Star was filmed, my Great-Grandpa was pastor of the Oneida Indian Methodist Church - so the story had a local angle, even in Wisconsin. The experience became my Little Grandma's main claim to fame, although she traveled extensively and had many other accomplishments to boast of. In the story she expresses her thoughts about the film then, and she rarely diverged from it's copy when reminicing about Flaming Star many years later. Elvis as a Kiowa... what a gas !!! I've never watched the film in one sitting, but I have seen most of the scenes over the years. I just can't maintain attention during an Elvis movie, even if my grandma is in it ! And though I'm also no big fan of Elvis' music, I really do dig the title track to this film. - S.S. Jan 2007 |
