| It is important that the classes be an enjoyable and positive learning experience for all students.� Consider yourself an ambassador for the Medina SeniorNet at all times, even when a situation might become stressful.� Our future success depends on the majority of the students returning to take additional classes. | ||||||||||||||||
| There may be a very rare situation where a student exhibits rude behavior.� It is important to try to resolve the problem in a very quiet, calm and diplomatic way.� Report the incident to the Learning Center Coordinator after the class session. | ||||||||||||||||
| Background | ||||||||||||||||
| Must be knowledgeable of PC computers using Windows XP operating system and the program software to be used in the class.� Must be able to work well with senior citizens who may require a slow pace with much repetition and reinforcement as students may not have been in a classroom for thirty years or more.� Must speak in a loud and clear voice and be very patient and kind.� Must be very dependable. | ||||||||||||||||
| Procedures | ||||||||||||||||
| Review the lesson plans enough to comfortably teach the class.� Make copies of any special handouts using the copy machine in the LearningCenter. | ||||||||||||||||
| Check out the key at the front desk and arrive at the LearningCenter at least twenty minutes prior to class time.� Leave the key in the door as a reminder to turn it back in following the class session.� Use the wood wedge to keep the door open during the class. | ||||||||||||||||
| Sign in and put on your name tag. | ||||||||||||||||
| Remove the student name tags and list of students from your folder in the file cabinet.� Place the name tags on the computers in the same order as on the list of students.� Obtain lesson plans from the closet in the entranceway and distribute them to the computer desks. | ||||||||||||||||
| Turn on the computers to make sure that they are working properly, and make sure there is paper in the printer.� Prior to the first session of a class, open the Instructor account on all computers to be used in the class in readiness for the students to open their personal account. | ||||||||||||||||
| Confer with your coach(s) as to what you will be doing that day and what expectations you have of their role for the day. | ||||||||||||||||
| The first class session shall include introductions of the instructor, coach(s) and students, allowing a little time to get everyone feeling comfortable. | ||||||||||||||||
| Follow the class lesson plans each week to the best of your ability. | ||||||||||||||||
| Allow for a ten-minute rest break approximately one hour into the class session. | ||||||||||||||||
| Inform students of the Friday afternoon lab period from 1:00 to 3:00.� Have those interested in using the lab period for making-up a lesson, getting help, or for practicing sign up on the lab sheet on the bulletin board.� There will be at least one instructor in the lab. | ||||||||||||||||
| Pass out class evaluation forms along with an envelope at the last class session.� Have the students fill them out and put them in the envelope and place them in the Learning Center Coordinator folder on the table. | ||||||||||||||||
| Contact the Learning Center Coordinator regarding any problems or issues needing attention.� This can be done via phone call (330-666-8138) or e-mail ([email protected]). | ||||||||||||||||
| Following each class session make sure all of the computers and the printer are turned off and return student name tags to your folder | ||||||||||||||||
| Sign out, leave your name tag in the basket, turn off all lights, lock the door and return the key to the front desk. | ||||||||||||||||

| Instructors receive free membership in SeniorNet. | ||||||||||||||||
| Instructors may take any SeniorNet class for half price by registering for the class through the normal channels. | ||||||||||||||||
