Swapnar Biye

It was about 5 o’clock in the evening.

We have just finished our football match in the college ground in front of the hostel. Raja suddenly entered room no-8 and very seriously chalked out the plan and we all agreed to it.

Yes! It was Swapna’s marriage that night and she had invited only the girls of our class (3rd year). Serious offence! We had to do something mischievous in retaliation to it.

A lethal team of 16 members was immediately compiled for the mission at that night. Unnecessary to utter those names, as you surely can imagine the guys in the team.

It was late summer and drizzling a little after a mild Kalboisakhi in the evening. The hit squad assembled at 7 o’clock in the evening and started for Sealdah station to avail the train for Dumdum station. The marriage was in a rented house at Nagerbazar. Raja collected the information from an invitation letter that he got from his public relation source.

Oh yes! We also purchased a nicely decorated flower bouquet on the way to Sealdah station. We had to share all the investment cost and about Rs.3/- per head was a heavy burden on those days for us. Of course we traveled the train without ticket and that saved a little. However we could not avoid the bus fare from Dumdum station to Nagerbazar.

Sixteen people reached the venue at 9 o’clock in the night. Melodious Sehnai tune just seeped our mind and the smell of marriage menu triggered the gastric juice secretion inside.

The girls from our class were already there, as they were invited. Instantly they smelled the problem and some of them must had informed Swapna inside.

The manager of the event was Swapna’s maternal uncle (Mamu). He came out immediately to receive and greet us.

“We are so happy that all of you have come my boys. Swapna has done a mistake by not inviting you, but we welcome you all from our heart” ---- He came out saying these welcome words.

“Actually uncle we love Swapna so much that we could not resist attending her marriage” --- Replied Raja.

Mamu took us to Swapna. We exchanged our pleasantries. Swapna was ashamed for not inviting us but her eyes were really twinkling with happiness on getting us.

After all the nice vocabularies, Raja went back to Mamu (Uncle) again and we all accompanied.

“So Mamu! Now we go back.” ---- said Raja.

“How can it be my nice boys? You cannot go back without eating from a marriage ceremony.” ---- said Mamu.

“No no no no Mamu we are not supposed to ----- woonk! Wooh.” --- Raja could not finish his dialogue and had to stop abruptly due to the pain, as Michel had squeezed his vital parts from the back in the mean time.

“Ok Ok Ok Mamu as you say. “ --- Raja finished.

The moment Mamu turned back we all charged Raja “Saala! khub khejur marcho! We all have opted no-mill in the hostel this night and already spent a lot for the bus ticket and bouquet. Now where shall we run to feel our tummy?” --- Shouted Michel.

“Eh Ki Mairy! but so powerful squeeze! It’s paining.” Raja was limping a little.

As far as I remember The “Mutton Rogon Josh” in the menu was the best.
