The Bright Light of a Torch: V

The Light will Never Fade

This is way wierd. If you don't get it, then don't feel stupid. I'm just like that!

Jenny looked at Aileen's still and lifeless body and declared that she died without feeling anything. It was supposedly a disease that caused the death, but no one was certain of anything anymore. Quaxo watched her still body for a long time before Jelly took it to the tire where she would be taken to the heavy side layer. He didn't understand how it happened. It was so sudden. His life wouldn't be the same without her. Jemima and Tumble feared for him and hoped that he wouldn't do anything drastic. Jemima cried for hours after the news. Quaxo didn't say anything to anyone and kept completely to himself. He let his tears fall only when he was alone.

Ebony, however, had the strangest affect of them all. When she heard, she at first looked as though she would cry, but then smiled faintly. "I see her." A few looked at her, startled, but then she smiled more broadly then before. "I don't know how, but in my mind I can see her." Than she began to sing:

"The bright light of a torch,

Will glow as long as the moon.

The light will embrace us all.

And the fading will never be soon."

Quaxo looked up as she sang this, and understood her meaning. The name Aileen meant torch light. All lights must fade at a certain point, but the moon does not fade. Aileen would never fade from them, like the moon. She'd always be there. Quaxo smiled proudly at his wise daughter. She seemed to understand that he understood and smiled in his direction. Jett also understood the meaning, and by and by, so did the others. The light will never fade.
