Sine Qua Non
(Something indispensable)
From time to time
we are all guilty
of the careless crime
of neglecting emotional stability.
Maybe not showing love,
not showing we care,
with a velvet glove,
we stare and glare,
instead of giving joy
we dance with pain,
emotions like a toy,
playthings for the insane.
We need to play,
for pleasure, not gain,
timing what we say,
to avoid causing pain,
be happy, not miserable,
enjoy life, not death,
it is something indispensable,
even our final breath.
