Witchy FAQS

Ok, i was all ready for some Q & A here but when i sat down to type it all out, i realized that nobody ever asks me any questions. I mostly get questions about what to read, where to find it, and how to levitate my cheating boyfriend to make him float back into my life. But here are a few very simple FAQ's i've been getting lately:

Q: Do witches have powers?
A: nope nope nope. well, none of the special nature. we can't stop time or levitate or manifest objects with the sheer power of our minds. stop watching so many episodes of charmed.

Q: Are male witches called "warlocks"?:
A: Nope. Male witches are called....ready? Witches. ;o)

Q: Can anyone be a witch?
A: Yes, it is a religious choice. Anyone can be a follower of the Craft just as anyone can be a Christian, Buddist or any religion if they truely would like to be!

Q: Are people born witches?
A: No. Even if your mom was a witch and every woman/man born down the line, Witchcraft and being a witch is a choice. See previous answer.

Q: What is a natural Witch?
A: This term is thrown around a lot. In my mind, it is simply a heriditary witch. This means they were born into the Traditions....not the power. Make sense?

Q: What is the difference between Witchcraft and Black Magick?
A: Hmm, this one is hard to explain. Mostly because I do not believe in a black magick. Magick is magick. Good, bad, evil, wonderful, magick works the same. It is up to the individual to decide how they direct their energy and live their lives.

Q: What is the worst thing that could happen if I do a spell incorrectly?
A: Since I believe that spells are completely about you and your purpose, it is almost impossible to really do a spell incorrectly. To tell the truth, the worst thing that could ever happen is that your spell will fail. When spells do fail, there is usually a reason (besides your mismatched magick). Perhaps it wasnt meant to be. However, I must warn you that performing a spell before youre ready will create such fears about doing it incorrectly or even performing a spell that isnt exactly harm none acceptable ;o) Please use caution when performing any spell. Always mind the rule of three and ALWAYS know what youre goal is, focus focus. Remember, magick follows the path of least resistance.

Q: Do witches believe in God and Satan?
A: I cant speak for all witches. Most witches do believe in a God and or a Goddess aspect. As far as Satan goes, most witches do not believe in his existence. I personally do not believe in Satan. How could I? I am of free will, free to choose. I think too many people who do believe in such a devil are looking for an excuse of temptations and sins. Its easier to blame someone then to look inside ourselves for true motivation.

Q: Can witches fly?
A: If only everyone could fly! No, we cannot fly, at least not in the true physical aspect. There are flying ointments which can alter the brain and numb the body to create a sensation of flying. These are herbal based oils and are not to be used by just anyone. The ingredients in these oils are often poisonous, so be careful if you are going to use or make any flying ointment!

Q: Why do witches have brooms?
A: Brooms or besoms as some call them are signs of fertility and hearth. There is much lore to date back brooms. It is said to always keep your broom with bristles facing up for good luck. Witches use brooms not only as fertility symbols but also to sweep out negativity. You can always email if you want more info on brooms.

Q: Do witches perform animal sacrifices?
A: I do not, and I do not know of any other witches that do. Animals are sacred to all witches, nature is sacred. NO animal sacrifices!

Q: Could you tell me how to close the circle please?
A: First, you need to know there are different views on this. Some people believe it is important not to just "poof" disappear your circle. I live in a house where i'm easily interrupted and have to run out of my circle often. I am no stranger to a quick release. A good rule of thumb is to reverse your circle casting. I like to turn to each element in reverse order and humbly thank them for blessing my circle. However, when i don't call the elements or quarters, i simply release the circle. I imagine it falling into the ground. Here is are some examples:
To close the circle, release the quarters. Say the following while walking around the circle, snuffing out each candle as you go:
East, South, West and North:
I Thank You for your assistance
May we meet again in love and trust.
Move to the center of the circle, raise your hands above your head and slowly bring them down to your sides while moving around the circle saying as you go:
I close my hand and the circle shrinks,
"This circle is open
But never broken"
(always good to end on that line)
or just simply release the circle. It comes down to preference.

Here is one more:
Closing The Circle
After you perform your rite, you will have to close the circle, never leave a circle without closing it, and never EVER leave the elements hanging. If you have called the elements, you will have to do this:
Start in the South, raise your hands in the air and say:
I thank you, guardians of the South, element of Fire. Go if you must, stay if you will.
Now to the East, raise your hands in the air and say:
I thank you, guardians of the East, element of Air. Go if you must, stay if you will.
Now to the North, raise your hands in the air and say:
I thank you, guardians of the North, element of Earth. Go if you must, stay if you will.
Now to the West, raise your hands in the air and say:
I thank you, guardians of the West, element of Water. Go if you must, stay if you will.

Q: Do you think you could give me a few pointers?
I know that I have to build an altar to start but I don't know what it is, nor what it looks like.

A:
starting out:

for altar info:

for a BOS: http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~obsidian/BOS2.html
And here are just a few good "all around" sites:

Q: Can I still be Catholic and a Witch?
A: Hmm, well, my answer here is why not. Are you going to renounce your Catholicism? I bet youre not. There are many witches that incorporate both belief systems into one that works for them. Work with what you believe in!

::please remember that these are simply my answers to questions. I do not represent all witches, pagans etc. I am one woman with specific beliefs and ideas. I will always be happy to help you in anyway I can. Just keep in mind these are my interpretations of my craft. Take them as examples. Never believe everything you read! ;o) ::

ok...enough for now. Bright blessings.....
