I can't find any witches to talk to in my area! Help!!
There is nothing more frustrating than looking around at your friends and family and thinking "nobody understands" or "nobody can help". But, there are
solutions. Since paganism is so misunderstood it is often concealed or kept secret from the general public. Sure, there are some witches who wear
large pentacles around their neck or a big "pagan and proud" bumper sticker, but how do you really get to meet them? How do you find someone in a coven?
How can you find a coven to belong to ? How about someone to just answer some basic questions?
Let's see, i'll tell ya what i know...
1. How do I go about finding a local witch?
-easy. There is an excellent web site www.witchvox.com. on that site, there are state by state listings (and other countries as well). These listings
include email address, web sites (if they have one) and of course the actual city they live in is listed too. It is the best way to find witches in your area.
Of course, be safe, don't just run out and meet these people (especially if you are under 18, in that case, stick to emailing) you never know just who is
at the other end of the computer. could be a serial killer freak, or just a freak (like me).
2. What should i write in the email?
-hmm, something simple and direct. Start off by introducing yourself. Tell them if you are new or experienced, and maybe a little about your
tradition or your path. Let this person know you live in the area and just looking for a friend to email and possible chat over the phone. Let them
respond and take it from there. Once again, I repeat, if you do meet someone from online (and I have to repeat again, not if you or the other person
is under 18) do it safely, meet at a public place like the mall, or a coffee/book store. Don't let them talk you into anything else but safe places.
Chances are they should be worried about you too, and want to meet in a public crowded place. Never go anywhere alone with anyone you meet
online! -lecture over-just be safe and use your heads!!
3. What if no one responds or there is nobody in my area?
-wellll. Ok, well, if there is NOBODY in your area, there has to be someone within traveling distance or at least someone you can email
from your own state (country). And if nobody writes back, try going to your local "new age" store, if you have one. You know the place, they
usually have a psychic on hand or a tarot reader. If you ask someone who works there if they know of any groups that meet around town, they'll
share the info. It's kind of like an inner circle secret, you won't know unless you ask. Pagans don't generally advertise covens or group meetings.
You'll find coven and store listings at witchvox.com as well.
So...here are some URL's to get you started on the path to finding "others" like yourself. Good luck, stay safe!
