Yes, i am addicted to Omens. It's official.
I should be commited. or something. anyway onward to the omens...
MORE OMENS!
BEASTS, BIRDS, AND INSECTS
It is regarded as lucky if a bird flying overhead
makes a mess on you. (Strange one for sure)
Hearing a cuckoo calling after the end of July is
a bad omen.
To see a fox brings good luck, but
to see several together brings misfortune.
Killing a cat brings seven years' bad luck.
Killing a robin or a sea gull is also very
unlucky.
A rabbit's foot is said to be lucky,
and people sometimes carry one as a good-luck
charm.
It is lucky to drive through a flock of
sheep on the road.
If rooks build a nest near
your house, it is thought to bring luck.
Likewise, to have a swallow's nest under your
eaves is very lucky.
A bee flying into the
house predicts the arrival of good news or of a
stranger.
DAYS AND DATES
Sunday is the most propitious day for beginning any new enterprise.
It is the best day to get up after a serious illness. Any article of
clothing which is put on for the first time on a Sunday is supposed
to last twice as long as it otherwise would.
The Irish consider Monday lucky. But it is unlucky to move house on
this day.
On a Tuesday it is very unlucky to meet a left-handed person first
thing in the morning.
Wednesday is supposed to be an unlucky day for a child to be born.
It is an unlucky day for other beginnings, especially journeys.
Thursday has only one lucky hour, the one before the sun rises.
Despite this, if you are determined enough, it is a good day to carry
a difficult job through to its completion.
A Friday is most unlucky for beginning a new venture. If you dream
on Friday night and tell somebody about it on Saturday, the dream
will come true.
Anybody beginning a new job on a Saturday will not stay long. It
is a lucky day for baptisms, but not for any dangerous enterprises.
On New Year's Day, it is unlucky to enter somebody's house unless
you take along a present for them.
You must take all Christmas decorations down on or before Twelfth
Night, January 6, or suffer bad luck.
To preserve your luck, you should make and eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, the
day before Lent begins.
WEATHER
If you hear the braying of a donkey, it means there will be rain
before the day is out.
While rainbows are always a good omen, being able to see both ends
of a rainbow at once is especially lucky.
If you see a shooting star in the sky, make a wish quickly while
it is still visible and the wish will be granted.
A well known superstition is that if a groundhog sees his shadow
when he comes out on February 2, there will be six more weeks of
winter; if he doesn't, spring will arrive early.
Seeing or hearing a woodpecker portends rain. If you notice that
ants are unusually busy, it also suggests that rain is on the way.
