How do I go about picking a Craft name?

Oh boy, the big question. Ok, there are a gazillian ways to choose a craft name. Lets look at a few of them.
I'm still sick, so a gazillian is a lot to think about right now.
1. Meditation
-kinda self-explanitory. sit and ask the goddess to give you sign, a symbol. then just interpret it into a name
2. Get a list of God/ddess
-go through the list and find a god/ddess that you relate to, or that has the powers that you wish to have as well
3. Think
-think of traits of nature, a gemstone, an animal or the heavens that you like. do any of them apply to you? for example:
Fire, are you firey? do you possess the traits of the element of fire? Or perhaps you feel overly connected with the moon. Luna,
or MoonFire or whatever combo you want. I warn you though, these names can get pretty overdramatised (see last question)

These names don't have to be "anything". they don't have to fit a certain mold. Perhaps you feel a good trait of yours is that you're
a good friend. Then you could go with the Celtic name of "Cara" which means good friend. I have included a list of names at the
bottom of the page with their origins as a small reference to picking a name (#2).

Do I have to have a Craft name?

You don't have to do anything you don't want to! I know there are plenty of witches who do not chose craft names,
this does not make them any less witches (or people for that matter). So no, you don't have to pick a new name! And, there
is no deadline to when you need a name. The whole year and a day thing doesn't always apply to you. Take things at
your own pace. Your craft name (if you chose to take one) will come to you in time.

Is it a secret name? I mean, can I tell other non-witches?

This is an individual thing. I don't believe that your craft name is some agent 007 secret identity. Why should it be?
When christians get confirmed they pick confirmation names, they're not secret. However, if you want it to be secret then that
is your own business. Only you have control over who knows your craft name, right? But there is no rule i know of (or follow) that
says your craft name is secret (either to a coven...or whatever)

Can I change my craft name?

Of course you can. We all grow and change, why shouldn't our names? Perhaps you were too hasty in choosing a name, it's
not too late. However, i would suggest that you try to give it great thought so this doesn't happen. One of my pet peeves on lists and such
is when people are changing their craft name like their email address. One week they're MoonMyst and the next they're ShyningSun,
then they're back to MoonLiteMystSunShyne. Whew, who could keep that strait???
