The Middle Eastern Dance Club of Texas A&M University-Kingsville was formed during the fall semester of 2004. It is dedicated to helping the community, making friends, and of course, learning the art of Middle Eastern Dance (a.k.a. Belly Dance)! Our performance group is known as "The Daughters of the Nile", and can be seen performing on campus and across South Texas. We oftern perform with our sister group, "Cleopatra's Daughters" of Texas A&M Corpus Christi, as well as with "The Empress of the Sands" and "Hourglass Bellydance", two belly dance troupes based in Corpus Christi, Texas. Belly dancing has had the misfortune of being mislabled as being scandalous or indecent. In reality it is an evolving art from practiced by both men and women throughout the world, with many differnet forms and styles. It can be a great way to have fun while building self confidence, strengthing your body and making friends. |
