WHEREAS:
- Thomas Burnett, Jeremy Glick, Mark Bingham and Todd Beamer were passengers on Flight 93 from Newark to San Francisco on September 11, 2001;
- The airplane was hijacked by 4 Islamic terrorists with the intent to fly the plane as a missile to destroy either the U. S. Capitol or the White House, & kill President Bush or many Senate & House members & staff;
- These four, seated in 2 groups, discussed and decided to take charge of the passenger/crew group and to retake the plane inferring from from hijackers' actions that the plane was to be crashed into a Washington, DC target.
- They each called their family; they expressed their love & stated, "We're going to rush the hijackers"..."There are three of us that are going to do something about it".."I still have my butter knife" & began to retake the plane.
- They jumped the hijackers in the cockpit; wrestled control of the plane from them, changed course which aimed it into an unpopulated Pennsylvania country-side and grounded it, in a crash damaging no one or things, but gave up their lives so that our Nation's Capitol and national leaders could be saved.
WHEREFOR: Such acts of ultimate charity that saved the lives of our Senate and House of Representatives members and staff, and the edifices of our government, the U.S. Capitol complex, yet required the taking of their own lives in so effecting, warrant the recognition of this heroism in safeguarding the freedom of Americans.
BE IT SO RESOLVED: This Nation must honor them with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
