Chapter 11
Umaki stood at the edge of a cliff. He looked over it, at the vast expanse of rainforest. He looked down at the scar on his bare chest. A small bullet hole, luckily, he was able to escape from that body bag and put a villager in it. Earlier, he was going through Gary’s belongings and found a vial of stuff that supposedly brought people back to life. He snuck some in a pouch and pocketed it. He was planning on selling it to the black market when the expedition was over. When he was shot, he took some of the stuff, well, it worked, but it hurt like hell. For the past 3 days he was living off of the land, he lost at least 10 pounds. His clothes were torn, he was filthy, not to mention he probably smelled like hell. He cleaned his guns every day, making sure they were loaded, just in case he ran into anything. Umaki was foraging for some food, when he saw a copter flying over head. He chased it to the base camp. He watched and listened to all the news. He new exactly what was going on, his three days in the wilderness made him more stealthy than ever. The only thing he didn’t expect to see was Misty, somehow, she survived that shot. Umaki unhooked his gun from his holster, he double checked, making sure it was loaded. Umaki took a deep breath, he rocked back and forth, getting the blood flowing. This was it, the final showdown. No more shall he be dead, he will be alive.
“Surge, Rhino is dead. He shot himself, it appears.”
“Dammit, and we needed him for the strength work. Anyone else dead?”
“Talon and several locals. All of them shot to death.”
“Suicide?”
“No. It can’t be, not all of them at the same time.”
“What do you mean Oak?”
“All the bodies died approximately 2 minuets apart.”
“So, a mass murder?”
“Yes.”
“Gabriel, to your knowledge, can a Matarae’s hands allow it to use and hold a gun?” Surge asked.
“Matarae’s mental capacity will allow it to understand guns, however it cannot operate a gun. The bone structure won’t allow it to.”
“Surge, the idea that Matarae can use a gun is ridiculous.”
“I know, but still, you’ll never know what can happen nowadays.”
“Surge, I think that ve should start preparing for our vinal strike.”
“Yes, Ragen, we will begin soon. Gabriel, make sure that those darts are filled.”
“They have been checked, all are filled.”
“And the bait?”
“Set.”
“Good. Ragen, arm the rocket launchers, send all the locals away. Bring the other expedition members in here.”
“Ok.”
The tent was quiet for several minuets. The last several hours, bodies have been showing up. Mostly locals, but several expedition members are dead. Jessy, James, and Cassidy are missing, Krysta and several villagers left on the chopper. All able men were sent to start setting up the gun racks. Gabriel had informed them about Matarae, all of its strengths and weaknesses. If Gabriel was correct, Matarae don’t like other beings in their territory. That is why, Gabriel guesses, that the two robots were destroyed. Gabriel set up the motion sensors to a greater radius. This was now a hunt, Matarae will die, today. The plan was to remove all villagers, then, all the members left will grab guns and hunt. Several will secure a perimeter, while a scout goes ahead and looks for anything unusual. As Gabriel sat down in front of the table in the center of the tent, his walkie-talkie burst into sound. “I repeat! Ten Matarae have surrounded us and taken down the chopper! The villagers that were evacuated also.... dead.... ten.... came.....nowhere!”
“This is Gabriel. Repeat, you’re breaking up!”
“..... dead.... Krysta..... injured.... loosing blood.... backup!”
“Dammit! Surge, can we send anyone?”
“No. There is no one to send. Tell them to find a shelter, we’ll see what we can do.” A girl’s high pitched shriek filled the walkie-talkie, sounds of growling and snapping entered the eerie symphony. Soon, the man began screaming, more roaring and bone crunching, finally silence.
“Goodbye Pikachu...” Ash said as he wiped tears from his eyes. Gently, he put the Pokeball with Pikachu in it into the transporter. The mission was getting dangerous and Oak suggested they all send their Pokemon to the lab in Pallet. Everyone agreed, however Gary said he wouldn’t send his Gevaudan. Gevaudan was his Guardian, and they couldn’t be separated. Oak tried to send the Pokeball through the transporter, but it wouldn’t transport, so Gevaudan stayed. Gary unleashed it from the Pokeball and allowed it to inspect its surroundings. Once Pikachu was sent to Pallet, Oak turned off the machine. That was the last one, now, it was time to see if Matarae could be killed. Gary walked out of the tent to Jenny, she was sobbing. All of a sudden, she was pale, she was terrified about the upcoming showdown. When she saw Gary, she ran up and embraced him, she started kissing him. Gevaudan, who was sitting next to Gary, began to growl. Gary and Jenny didn’t notice, suddenly, Jenny convulsed. She fell limp in Gary’s arms. Gary shook her gently, she didn’t move. A small bullet hole was in her back. Gary looked up and saw Umaki.
“Hello Gary.”
“Umaki!? You’re dead!”
“Thanks to you I’m not. That powder stuff works, but it kicks you in the ass.” Gary stood still speechless. When Jenny’s body fell to the ground, Gary snapped. Immediately he charged Umaki, screaming. Ash and Hawk ran out of the main tent seeing what the commotion was. When they saw Jenny dead on the floor and Umaki with a gun, they understood. They began to help Gary, when Umaki raised a hand. “No, no Gary. Stop. Same to you, Ash, Hawk.” Umaki held a bag up high. It was Gary’s powders. Gary gasped, they were the only thing left of his Venusaur, besides the tooth necklace he wore. “Take one more step, and these, along with the main tent go down in flames.” Umaki nodded towards some empty tanks of kerosene. He held a lighter in his other hand. Gary stopped, not knowing what to do.
“Umaki, sweety!” Misty taunted. Umaki spun around, Misty was holding a gun, aimed straight at Umaki. Umaki turned pale, he began to sweat, he wiped his brow and threw the briefcase at Misty. Misty fired at the briefcase, missed, and fell back when it hit her. Umaki pulled his gun from his holster and fired it at Hawk who was charging at him. Hawk grabbed his leg in pain and violently fell on the ground, his momentum rolling him on the ground. Ash chased after Hawk and checked his wound. Gary took out his gun and fired at Umaki, the bullet grazed Umaki’s shoulder. Umaki yelled in pain and surprise. Umaki aimed and fired at Gary, hitting Gary in the shoulder. Gary recoiled in pain and put his gun in his other hand. He lifted it and was ready to fire, when another bullet hit Gary’s other shoulder. The gun clattered on a rock nearby, Gary fell to the ground, his wounds bleeding profusely.
Misty scrambled to Ash and gave him Gary’s bag. Ash opened it and looked through it, he was thankful that Gary labeled everything. Ash hurriedly took out the vile labeled ‘wound - major’ and mixed it with some sap, just like Gary did to Misty. He applied the concoction onto the bullet hole in Hawk’s leg, the bullet went totally through the limb. Hawk winced in pain as the wound began to sizzle, soon it closed up, the sounds of nerves reconnecting vaguely were audible to Hawk. Hawk watched Ash take Gary’s bag over to Gary who was unconscious on the ground.
Umaki stood reloading his gun, with a click, the magazine was locked in the gun. Umaki held the gun towards Misty. “Here, let me finish what I started.” Umaki pulled the trigger. In a split second, the bullet hovered in front of Umaki’s face. Sabrina stood next to Misty. Apparently, she teleported there, she had her hand stretched out, controlling the bullet. The bullet still spun as it hovered close to, and away from, Umaki’s head. The bullet hovered in-between Umaki’s eyes.
“If you move just one muscle, I will send this bullet straight through your skull,” Sabrina threatened. Umaki smiled as he saw Sereena walk up to Sabrina. Sereena kicked Sabrina in the gut. The bullet fell to the floor.
“Thanks,” Umaki chuckled. “I was wondering when you would stop playing cover-up, sister.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
“Sereena! You, but, how?! Why?” Hawk gasped.
“It’s complicated, babe,” Sereena snickered. She walked up to Umaki and hugged him. Sereena cried out in pain and fell to the ground. Umaki reload his gun.
“It took you too long, bitch.” Umaki kicked Sereena’s body to the side. Hawk, in a fit of rage, found a gun and started to shoot Umaki. Two bullets tore through his right leg, he shouted in agony. A third bullet planted itself in his shoulder. Umaki glared at Hawk and tried to fire at him, he missed. Gary then started to try to tackle Umaki, Umaki aimed at Gary, and was ready to shoot. Suddenly, Gevaudan leaped at Umaki and tore his arm off. Umaki screamed as Gevaudan began to attack him and tear him apart. A gurgled cry emitted through the snapping of Gevaudan’s jaws. Gevaudan spat out Umaki’s hand. He trotted over to the washing bin and dunked his head in. Gevaudan took his head out, cleaned from the blood, and shook it spraying the grass around him. Gevaudan leisurely walked back next to Gary and lied down, licking his paws. Several wild Pokemon scavengers flew in and started picking at Umaki’s torn up body.
“Ok, well, putting that incident with Umaki aside, I believe it is time to see if we can hunt Matarae?”
“Sounds good, Surge.”
“Gabriel, from what you have gathered, how many Matarae are there?”
“Well, if the count from the person who radioed in is correct, there are at least 10 of them. We can guess they will vary in age and size, so we might find a couple weaker, easier to kill ones.”
“However, they regenerate, correct?”
“Correct, there is a way to stop that. When you shoot them, fire right in-between the shoulder blades. If it hits right, it will destroy the sac in which the chemical is stored, it’s like an acid, so it should kill it automatically.”
“I hope you’re right Gabriel.”
“I should be, but why do you sound so concerned?”
“Because there is one right behind you!”
