Tails Takes on the Universe

With a roar, the giant robot thrashed back and forth, flinging laser blasts into the air in every direction. As the robot continued its rampage, a brown blur shot from the forest floor, landing a huge uppercut to the robots head. Spinning his twin tails furiously, Tails shot back under the robots retaliating swing and kicked with both feet into its unprotected stomach. With a resounding crack, the robot snapped in half at its torso and crashed to the ground, spitting earth in every direction.

"Yes!" cried Tails as he landed upon his fallen foe, "Turbo Tails saves the day ONCE AGAIN!!!!" Laughing maniacally, Tails swished his long black cloak around himself as he struck a dramatic pose upon the destroyed robot.

"Tails, what are you doing?" cried Princess Sally Acorn as she stepped out from the forests foliage, "you snapped that poor tree straight in half!" Laying a hand upon the fallen sapling, she continued to scold Tails.

"Yes maam, no maam, yes Princess," recited Tails as Sally berated him, "I will be kind to the forest at all times, being veeeeery respectful to all of the living things on planet Mobius"

"Sheesh, why are you so energetic this morning?" asked Sally as she brushed her hand through her hair exasperatedly, "you should be out cold like Sonic and the others, after watching him and Rotor do that silly "Chili Dog Eating Contest" all night long!"

"Aw, Sally," whined Tails as he bobbed up and down in the air impatiently, "its too great of a day to just sleep! Robotnik could be hatching his latest evil plan! Swatbots could be approaching the village right now! DOOM could he lurking in the trees!!!!!" Tails shot into the air excitedly as he said this, twirling the dishtowel "cape" around him with a flourish.

Sally sighed as Tails crashed back to the ground, tangled in his own improvised cape. "Well how about you patrol the forest for any doom," said Sally gently as she removed the dishtowel from around Tails shoulders and folded it over her arm, "but try not to steal anything else from the kitchens, okay?"

"Sorry, Maam," said Tails sheepishly.

"Try to find something SAFE to do," said Sally cheerfully as she headed back towards the hut clearing, "and stay close to the village!"

"Oh, a normal young fox would need to stay near the village," grinned Tails as Sally left, "but notTURBO TAILs oh yeah, she took my cape." Sighing, he lifted off from the ground and drifted lazily into the forest. Dodging slowly around various branches, he gradually made his way into a great clearing in the forest.

"Wow," said Tails as he gazed upwards into the mass of branches over his head. In the middle of the clearing, two mighty oaks had grown together, forming a tangled web of branches spiraling into the sky. "Its all twisted together," mumbled Tails as he landed at the branches intersection, "the branches are all connected, almost like amaze"

He grinned as he noticed small clusters of acorns growing at intervals along the branches. Standing firmly on the branch mazes "starting point" he revved up his Tails and shot off along the branches. Running up and down the sloping branches or dodging over and under them, Tails shot along through the maze of branches.

"Gotcha!" he cried as his arm struck out and nabbed a bunch of acorns as he shot past them, "thats 10 magic rings for Tails!"

Tails hopped over another cross branch and slid down the next, twisting around and around as the branch sped him downwards. He leapt off and landed neatly on another branch. Running even as his sneakers touched the wood, he dashed along the path, sweeping through the leaves as he blasted along this green tunnel. Coming to a steep incline, he nabbed a few more acorns and shot up the branch. Ducking under or leaping over branches as he went, Tails shot swiftly upwards, finally coming to the end of the branch maze.

"There it is, the chaos emerald!" gasped Tails as he came to the edge of the branch. There it was, the bright green emerald shining in the sun sat perched upon the very top of the taller oak. With a yell, Tails leapt from the edge of the branch and hit the emerald full speed.

With a sickening thud, Tails smacked face first into the trees top, covered with a greenish plume of leaves. Tails peeled his face off the tree, spitting out leaves as he did so. "Owww," he moaned as he rubbed his jaw, "I probably broke something. I must not have had enough rings."

As he hurled the acorns he had collected off into space, Tails suddenly realized how high up he was. "Wow," he said again, gazing down at the other treetops, some distance below him, "these oaks are tall!" Looking through the branches off to the left, he could see glimpses of Knothole villages' huts. Noting a rather large gap through the tree tops directly above the village, he could just see his own hut, perched on the side of one of the largest trees in the village.

"I could make it" said Tails as he judged the distance a bit from his vantage point, "but Sally wouldnt want me to take such a stupid risk." Tails scratched his head, "But Sonic would!" Without a second glance he made a running start on the nearest branch and leapt out into the air. Angling forward and downward, he spun his Tails behind himself to build up speed, shooting straight as an arrow towards the opening.

As Tails shot towards the break in the branches, he noticed a small branch jutting out of the canopy, straight in his path. "Mustve missed that," he thought to himself, grimly. Quickly adjusting his Tails slightly, he maneuvered slightly to the left, trying to not spin out from the wind buffeting against him as he altered his flight path. Just in time, he barely passed past the branch, shooting out of the opening and into the air above Knothole.

"Yes! Tails does it again!" laughed Tails as he closed his eyes, savoring his accomplishment as he shot through the air over Knothole, startling the few villagers that were actually awake.

"Tails, watch out!" cried Sally from her huts porch as she took in the scene.

Tails eyes snapped open as he heard Sallys voice, noticing that he was headed straight for his own hut, above the rest of the village. "Oh cr" mumbled Tails as he slammed straight through his huts open window and smashed into his bed.

Sally sighed and headed for the ladder that led up to Tails hut as she saw him crash. "Im surprised that didnt wake the whole village," muttered Sally as she climbed up the tree to reach Tails hut, "Tails needs to find something to do without making such a commotion!"

Tails poked his head out from the pile of sheets and pillows that had been his bed before he crashed into it, smiling a bit at the damage done to his room, "I bet I was going as fast as Sonic when I hit!"

"Yeah, and if you had been going any faster, your hut might not still be standing," said Sally as she entered Tails hut, "look at the mess youve made!"

"Sorry, Sally," said Tails as he untangled himself from his bed, "but its nothing for Captain Super Fox"

"Im sure you could clean it up quickly," said Sally quickly, cutting off Tails speech, "but Id really like to clean it up for you! Just go play somewhere, not too close to the village, of course, far enough for you to have some fun."

"Really?" asked Tails as he jumped into the air with excitement, "thanks Sally!" Laughing, he shot out the window and zoomed off into the forest.

Sally sighed as she tossed Tails bed back together, "as long as he doesnt hang around Knothole, we should be fine."

Tails glided through the forest, catching cool updrafts to soar above the trees and keep aloft. As he dipped below the trees again, he noticed a rather large beehive hanging from a tree branch, shaking slightly in the wind.

"Im so hungry," moaned Tails as he set down next to the beehive, "I havent eaten in hours!" Pulling a dead stick from the tree, he proceeded to prod the beehive a few times for signs of activity.

After a few seconds of silence, Tails sighed with relief, "There doesnt appear to be any bees home, now for some honey!" As he reached his hand for the beehive, suddenly a loud buzzing erupted from the hive as thousands of bees emerged, all swarming straight for Tails.

"Buzzbombers!" cried Tails as he took to the air, dodging away from the closely following bees, "so it was a trap by Robotnik!" Spinning his tails faster and faster, he increased the distance between him and the buzzbombers. Dodging their laser blasts easily, he led them on a frantic path over the trees of the Great Forest. Their droning louder than ever, he kicked out an extra burst of speed and shot away from the forest, dropping lower to the ground as he shot along the ridges of the Mobian Plains, heading straight for Robotropolis.

"Ha, they gave up!" laughed Tails as the buzzbombers slowly gave up their pursuit and turned back towards the forest, "nothing can keep up with Captain Super Foxhey!" again he was cut off, this time by the approaching whine of a few hoverpods as they shot towards him.

"Geeze, Im already at Robotropolis," muttered Tails as he kicked at the "Welcome to Robotropolis" billboard, "Im better than I thought!" Whirling his Tails, he dived under the first hoverpod and shot between the next two as they shot wildly.

The hoverpods came around again, firing at Tails as he dipped down into the streets, heading around corners to avoid blasts, even as he increased his speed. Narrowly avoiding the building overhangs, the hoverpods continued their pursuit, blasting at Tails with every clear shot they could find.

Tails ducked down an alley, as the hoverpods continued past, heading off down another dark street of Robotropolis. "Ah, another brilliant escape by Tails," sighed Tails as he hopped out the other end of the alley, only to come face-to-face with a group of swatbots, blocking his route. "Th-this is nothing," said Tails, "a few measly bots are easy to handle for Captain Super Fox"

"Surrender, in the name of the great Dr. Robotnik," said the lead swatbot as it leveled its stun blaster at Tails head, "and prepare for robotocization."

Tails clenched his fist tightly as the swatbot cut him off. With a scream, he belted out "THIS IS NOTHING FOR CAPTAIN SUPER FOX-MAN THE MUTANT CYBORG CLONE!!!!!!" and launched himself at the lead swatbot. Smashing its head off with one blow, he followed through and landed in the midst of the swatbots. "There, I finally got to say it," said Tails. He dropped to the ground, sweeping another swatbot off its feet as they closed in on him.

Tails dived between one legs as they opened fire, their blue stun blasts driving ineffectually into the ground. Landing a kick to one robots back, Tails sprang off and dealt a flying kick to another bot, sending it crashing into another one. Smacking another robot in the head, Tails was just about to finish them off when a stray blast hit him squarely in the tail.

"Ack!" cried Tails as he crashed to the ground, splattering some leaked oil onto the shins of the swatbot that had just shot him. Lowering its blaster to point directly between Tails eyes, it prepared to finish the job.

"The stun blast numbed my tail," cried Tails franticly, "that means I really AM here, in Robotropolis, this isnt just my imagination! I never dreamt I could do so well in real lifewell up until the last few seconds, I suppose." As the swatbot prepared to fire, Tails hurled a gloveful of oil into the swatbots visored head, blinding it. The bot immediately reached for its eyes while Tails spun into a tight little ball and crashed into the swatbot, sending it crashing to the ground.

"Ha, how you like the Tails Spin?" asked Tails as he shook off his dizziness, "Never expected to be defeated by Captain Super Fox-Maner, etcetera."

Laughing excitedly, he surveyed the bots he had destroyeduntil he noticed that he was still standing in the middle of a Robotropolis street. Quietly dodging around the broken swatbots littering the ground, Tails made his way off down the street.

"I dont have anything to pretend, now!" thought Tails to himself, "I really am beating ole Robuttnik!"

As he returned to the familiar billboard outside Robotropolis he gazed back at the city. "No doubt theyre cleaning up the mess by now," said Tails aloud, "I bet if I went back in theyd be so busy I could sneak past the guards and get straight to the robotocizer!" Tails grinned as he imagined himself returning triumphantly to the sleepy village, bringing valuable robotocizer parts while Sonic and the others had only just woken up.

The wail of an alarm from the city snapped Tails out of his daydream and replaced it with a much more realistic outcome of another adventure today: a one way trip to the robotocizer.

"And Captain Super FoX-Man, the Mutant Cyborg Clone, saves the day again!" laughed Tails as he plopped a swatbot helmet he had taken from among the wrecked bots onto his head. Getting a running start, he launched into the air and headed back for the Great Forest, and Knothole.

Sonic yawned again as he stumbled out of his hut. It was already the afternoon, but since the contest hadnt ended until the sun came up, he was pretty sure he still needed more sleep. Drooping to the ground beside Sally, he pointed to Tails, "Well Tails looks like hes been having fun all day, how about you, Sally?"

Sally sighed and rubbed her hand through her eyes, "Oh sure, he kept himself quite entertained when he wasnt terrorizing the rest of us with his antics."

"Aw, come on, Sal, he couldnt have been that bad!" said Sonic as he watched Tails try to balance a swatbot helmet on his head upside down.

"Hmph!" muttered Sally, "First he killed a poor little tree, then he went hurtling through here like a rabid flying fox, then he nearly scared me to death with that swatbot helmet!"

"I dont know where he found it, Princess," said Sonic as he yawned again, "but youre overreacting. Maybe you just imagined it."

Tails tried to hold his balance but couldnt help it, he tumbled over and lay there laughing.
