Countdown Match: Zoe Alexander vs. Misery
(FINISH: Misery misses Miserable Times and gets planted with an inverted atomic drop. Zoe hits the Zoetrope and covers for the three count.)
Winner: Zoe Alexander
("Rebel Yell" by Billy Idol plays over the Midsummer Night Slam logo.)
Narrator: And now... the Midwestern Establishment of Competitive Combat Arts presents Midsummer Night Slam!
David: Welcome to Chicago Ridge, Illinois, fans! We're here at the Frontier Fieldhouse, returning to pay-per-view. This is Midsummer Night Slam!
Dick: I'm pumped up for tonight, David, especially for Punk vs. Cynric!
David: What about Low Ki vs. Nykk? How's it going to go down on this hot summer evening?
("The Leaving Song Part II" hits and Eddie Crowe makes his way to the ring.)
David: We're kicking things off with the Straight Edge Lifestyle Foundation. It's C.M. Punk's student, Eddie Crowe.
Dick: Eddie's looking to get a big win after losing to Nykk last month at Punked Out.
David: Eddie is part of the Contender Star, and due to the way the Contender Star works, every time Eddie's in a singles match, he's defending his spot.
Dick: And unlike the championship advantage, it doesn't matter if you lose by DQ or count-out, you still relinquish your spot.
("It's Raining Men" hits and Cheesecake makes his way to the ring.)
David: The ever-flamboyant Cheesecake is set for action.
Dick: This is Cheesecake's biggest singles opportunity yet here in MECCA. As we said, if he beats Eddie, that means he gets on the Contender Star.
(They show the Contender Star, which consists of Nykk, Alan Mayse, Eddie Crowe, Low Ki and Cynric.)
Cheesecake vs. Eddie Crowe
Referee: David Bowers
(FINISH: Cheesecake makes a comeback and hits Eddie with a spinebuster. He gives him a couple of clotheslines and a back body drop. He goes for the Screw Driver, but Eddie blocks it and reverses the waistlock. He rolls up Cheesecake and grabs the ropes, but Cheesecake manages to kick out. Eddie gives Cheesecake a flying back elbow and then whips him into the corner. Cheesecake reverses and hits a reverse avalanche, grinding his rear end against Eddie's crotch. As the ref tries to separate them, Eddie hits an undetected low blow. He gives Cheesecake a brainbuster and gets ready to apply the Crowe's Nest. As he applies the Cobra Clutch, Cheesecake suddenly counters into a 3/4 Nelson, rolling up Eddie for the three count.)
Winner: Cheesecake
David: Cheesecake did it! This is the first time someone has been forced off the Contender Star!
Dick: What a great counter by Cheesecake, but Eddie looks pissed.
David: I know that look in his eye... Cheesecake, watch out!
(Eddie hits Cheesecake from behind with a double axehandle as Cheesecake gyrates in celebration. Eddie undoes a bootlace and starts choking Cheesecake with it. Bowers pulls him off, but gets shoved to the mat. Eddie applies the reverse cobra clutch into the flatliner, segueing into the Crowe's Nest, using the bootlace to choke Cheesecake while he's in the hold. More officials come down to try and get Eddie off. They finally pull him off, but not before Eddie lands a stiff kick to the solar plexus.)
David: Get him out of here! Cheesecake won the match fair and square!
Dick: This Eccentric Alliance has been getting under the skin of SELF recently, and this is just another example of what happens when you cross Punk or one of his men.
David: Cheesecake has to have had the wind knocked out of him after being choked and then that kick to the solar plexus.
("The Leaving Song Part II" plays as Eddie exits the ring.)
David: Well, we should definitely see some sportsmanship in our next match. Lisa Letty defends her Ladies' Title against her friend Shadow. It all started when Lisa didn't want to give another title shot to the Dangerous Liaison, so Shadow stepped up and asked for a title shot and that's what we're seeing tonight.
("Faint" hits and Shadow makes her way to the ring.)
David: Shadow looks ready to take on her friend Lisa Letty tonight.
Dick: Yeah, but I saw the Dangerous Liaison lurking around the building earlier. Shadow's getting a title shot, but will it be a clean title shot?
("Edge of Seventeen" hits and Lisa Letty makes her way to the ring.)
David: Lisa Letty prides herself on being a fighting champion, and has taken on all comers since she won the belt back on January 4. She has beaten all three Dangerous Liaison members in title matches, so she figured it was time to give one of her friends a title shot.
Dick: Who will ever forget that brutal Hardcore Match she had with LuFisto back at the MECCA Challenge? I hope for Lisa's sake that she's not thinking of Shadow as her friend, but as her opponent.
MECCA Ladies' Title Match: Lisa Letty vs. Shadow
Referee: Nikki Alvarado
(FINISH: Toward the end of the match, the Dangerous Liaison comes down to the ring. Lisa gets whipped into a corner and Shadow charges. Lisa counters into a sunset flip, but turns Shadow all the way over, applying the Letty Stretch. She lets go when she sees LuFisto try to trip her leg. She jaws with the three, and turns back around to get a jawbreaker from Shadow. Shadow whips her into the ropes, but Gail Kim trips Lisa. Nikki goes outside the ring and admonishes Gail, but Misery and LuFisto take hold of her from behind and ram her into the ring steps. They all get in the ring and attack Lisa. Shadow shoves Misery away and pulls off Gail. She starts yelling at the three of them as Lisa gets up, but she suddenly turns around and blasts Lisa with the Interceptor. The Dangerous Liaison attacks Lisa again, this time with Shadow directing traffic. Misery gets a chair and blasts Lisa across the back. LuFisto slaps Lisa around a little bit, and Gail locks in a bow and arrow lock, with Shadow kicking Lisa in the ribs. Finally, Gail lets go and they place Lisa face down with the chair on her back. Shadow climbs to the top rope and comes off with a double stomp on the chair. Lisa writhes in agony, and Shadow turns her over and covers. LuFisto throws Alvarado back in the ring, and she makes the slow three count.)
Winner: Shadow
David: What the hell is going on here!? We have a new Ladies' Champion, but... is Shadow a part of the Dangerous Liaison?
Dick: It looks that way, doesn't it? She accepted their help and may have just broke Lisa's back after that double stomp.
(Alvarado presents Shadow with the Ladies' belt, and Shadow snatches it quickly, holding it up for the crowd to see. She then hugs each of the Dangerous Liaison members.)
David: This is sickening. Shadow has turned her back on her friend Lisa Letty, all for the glory of being Ladies' Champion.
Dick: This is a different side of Shadow, who up until now has shown that she values fair play. Who would have thought there would be a dark side to someone named Shadow?
("Faint" plays as Shadow and the Dangerous Liaison leave.)
David: Up next, we'll have our tag title match. This was originally supposed to be Kevin Stone and Cynric challenging the UK Wrecking Crew, but when Cynric won the opportunity to face C.M. Punk in the main event, he gave up his tag title shot. However, Kevin was given the option of picking a new partner to go ahead with this match, and this past Tuesday none other than Alan Mayse accepted his offer.
("Seven Nation Army" hits and Alan Mayse makes his way to the ring.)
David: Alan has never really been a tag team wrestler, but he has the opportunity to bring home tag team gold here tonight.
Dick: It should be interesting to see how Alan fares as part of a regular tag team if he does win.
("Smoke on the Water" hits and Kevin Stone makes his way to the ring.)
David: Kevin Stone suffered a beating at the hands of the tag champs this past Tuesday on Go Time, but he's ready for some payback now that he has a partner.
Dick: He almost didn't find a partner in time. He asked Nykk a couple of weeks ago, but Nykk already had plans for this evening against Low Ki.
("Ironman" hits and the UK Wrecking Crew makes their way to the ring.)
David: The tag team champions are undefeated in tag team matches here in MECCA. They won the belts at the finals of the International Invitational back on April 30, and no one's been able to take them out since.
Dick: They work very well together, but they also haven't run up against the Pyro Twins yet. Until they do, just exactly who is the best tag team in MECCA is in dispute.
MECCA Tag Team Title Match: Kevin Stone and Alan Mayse vs. The UK Wrecking Crew
Referee: Keith Young
(FINISH: Kevin tags in and runs through Nathans with a shoulder block. He clotheslines Fletcher, and then gives Nathans a back body drop. He lifts Fletcher in a military press and drops him into a powerslam. He covers, but Nathans breaks up the count. They hit Kevin with right hands and then whip him into the ropes. Alan makes the blind tag. The UKWC put their heads down, but Kevin kicks Nathans and hits Fletcher with a spinning chokeslam. He covers, but Young tells him he's not the legal man. Alan gives Nathans an exploder suplex and then calls Kevin over. They give him the Tiger Bomb/neckbreaker combo, but Fletcher breaks up the pin. Kevin clotheslines him over the top rope, and goes out after him. Nathans rakes Alan's eyes and slides out to the apron as Kevin chases Fletcher. When they round the corner, Nathans dropkicks Kevin from the apron. Fletcher slides in, and Alan gives him a back suplex. He goes to the top rope, but Nathans pushes him off. Nathans and Fletcher hit the Wrecking Ball, and Nathans covers for the three count.)
Winners: The UK Wrecking Crew
David: The UK Wrecking Crew retain their titles once again.
Dick: They were just too much of a team for the newly formed team of Kevin and Alan to combat.
(The UKWC leave with the belts, while Kevin slides in and asks Alan what just happened. He seems upset.)
David: Kevin is definitely frustrated. This could have been his first title in MECCA.
Dick: This is a big win for the UK Wrecking Crew, beating two of the top singles stars in MECCA.
David: Up next is our biggest grudge match of the past couple of months. Nykk will take on Low Ki, and we have a video that shows just how these two wrestling machines got in each other's faces.
(A video is shown, recapping the Nykk/Low Ki feud.)
(In the arena, "Fighter's Passion" hits and Low Ki makes his way to the ring.)
David: Low Ki has not liked Nykk since his first day here in MECCA. And after the frustration at losing to Alan Mayse at the MECCA Challenge, he needs this win to make his case for a MECCA title shot.
Dick: These two have been fighting it out week in and week out for about a month now, and now's the time to settle it.
("Destroy" hits and Nykk makes his way to the ring.)
David: Nykk is not intimidated by Low Ki's reputation, or those stiff kicks he likes to employ. Look, there he goes!
(Nykk charges the ring and slides in as the ref calls for the bell.)
Nykk vs. Low Ki
Referee: David Bowers
(FINISH: Nykk goes for Howling Moon II, but Low Ki escapes and hits him with an enzugiri. Low Ki sets up for a big savate kick, but Nykk catches his leg and stomps on Low Ki's instep. Low Ki falls to the mat in pain, and Nykk quickly applies the Cedarleaf. Ki goes for the ropes, but Nykk rolls sideways, taking him back to the middle of the ring. He stands up with the Cedarleaf cinched in, and Low Ki screams in pain. He pushes up off the mat and Nykk starts to lose his grip. Ki is able to twist around and execute a victory roll for a two count. Low Ki limps to his feet and tries a wheel kick, but Nykk ducks. He gives Low Ki a rolling Samoan Drop and then goes to the top rope. However, Low Ki pushes Young into the ropes to crotch Nykk. He goes up after him, but Nykk hits him with right hands. Nykk tries to superplex him outside the ring, but Low Ki shifts his momentum and knees Nykk in the face a couple of times. He picks Nykk up and gives him a top rope Ki Krusher. He covers and gets the three count.)
Winner: Low Ki
David: Low Ki scores the big victory, and puts Nykk down for the three count!
Dick: What a match between these two men, but this time it's the superior experience of Low Ki that pays off.
David: I'm sure this isn't over for Nykk. He takes these losses personally, especially when his opponent's been attacking him for a month. Up next, a tag team match that was set up this past week on Go Time.
(They show footage from the 6/21 Go Time of the Pyro Twins and Eddie Crowe attacking the Eccentrics, and then later Reckless Abandon attacking Dusty and Eddie.)
(In the arena, "Burning Times" hits and the Pyro Twins make their way to the ring.)
David: A contest between two great teams. The Pyro Twins are the Pyro Twins, and Spanky and Delirious came within an eyelash of being the first MECCA Tag Team Champions back in April.
Dick: This could be a deciding factor on who gets a future title match, so the Pyro Twins better not blow it.
David: They would love to get at the UKWC, but C.M. Punk doesn't seem to want them to go after the titles.
("Can't Stop" hits and Reckless Abandon make their way to the ring.)
David: He's tweakin' out!
Dick: I can't believe these two clowns got the better of Dusty and Eddie on Go Time. I hope the Pyro Twins teach them what happens when you do something like that.
Reckless Abandon vs. The Pyro Twins
Referee: Keith Young
(FINISH: The Pyro Twins hit Final Darkness on Delirious, but Spanky hits Dusty with a flying forearm and then gives Jay Sliced Bread #2, splashing Dusty on his way down. He covers them both, but they manage to kick out. Spanky picks up Jay and signals to Delirious for Get Well Soon as Dusty slides out of the ring. He gets a chair as Spanky and Delirious hit the move on Jay, but Dusty blasts Spanky with a chairshot. Young calls for the bell.)
Winners: Reckless Abandon
David: Dusty just got his team intentionally disqualified. I don't think they even cared about the win.
Dick: This match was about revenge for the Pyro Twins, plain and simple.
(Dusty picks Delirious up for a powerbomb, and Jay traps his head. They drop to their knees, then stand up and Dusty flips Delirious over into a flatliner from Jay, directly onto the chair. Dusty kicks Spanky in the face as "Burning Times" plays.)
David: The Pyro Twins got the last laugh, but Reckless Abandon got the win. As far as the tag title contender situation, I don't think this match settled anything.
Dick: You need to win decisively and consistently to succeed here in MECCA, so you're right. It'll have to be another day for these two teams.
David: Well, up next is the main event for the MECCA Championship. C.M. Punk will take on Cynric, and I understand that Cynric is at the curtain ready to make that long walk to the ring.
(Backstage, Cynric is doing some last minute stretches. As he bends down to stretch his hamstrings, the MECCA Championship belt suddenly falls at his feet. Cynric stands up to face C.M. Punk.)
Punk: One fight means nothing. You want this belt that I've just laid in front of you? Come to the ring. Come to the devil's playground. When that bell rings, your martial arts skills are meaningless. I am the nightmare, Cynric. What you want, I will take away. What do you have to say now?
("Soul Creation" starts to play and Cynric looks down at the title, smirks at Punk and then leaves.)
(In the arena, Cynric makes his way to the ring.)
David: It's time for the main event, for the MECCA Championship. But what was that all about backstage?
Dick: Punk knows that Cynric is full of confidence after what went down on Go Time. At least from what we saw, it looks like Cynric is not letting Punk get under his skin.
Dick: He also has to combat these rabid Chicago fans, who have been chanting for Punk since they arrived.
("Miseria Cantare" hits and C.M. Punk makes his way to the ring.)
David: Our champion is not pleased at getting the snot beat out of him by Cynric on Go Time, because now he has to try to turn Cynric's momentum around on him, and that's not an easy task.
Dick: Punk is a champion for one reason: while all the others in MECCA are good, he's just that much better. Cynric had better beware, and remember that.
David: Let's take it up to ring announcer Jared Schrunk.
Jared: Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us on this night, June 25, 2005, for Midsummer Night Slam! It is now time for our main event, which will be scheduled for one fall, and for the MECCA Heavyweight Championship! To my left, the challenger... from Cincinnati, Ohio... weighing in at 235 lbs... Cyyyynriiiic! And his opponent... from Chicago, Illinois... weighing in at 220 lbs... he is the current MECCA Heavyweight Champion... C.M. Puuunk!
MECCA Championship Match: Cynric vs. C.M. Punk
Referee: David Bowers
(FINISH: Cynric gets Punk up on his shoulders and dumps him face first to the mat. He goes for the Lift Off, but Punk spins and sweeps his leg. Punk hits a shining wizard of his own and gets a close two count. Punk pulls Cynric to the corner and goes for the Pepsi Plunge, but Cynric fights out of it and gets Punk up for the Shock Cannon. He hits the Shock Cannon from the second rope and covers. Bowers makes the three count, but notices Punk's hand under the bottom rope before he calls for the bell. Cynric gets up, thinking that he's won, but Bowers informs him of the situation. Punk staggers up on the ropes as Cynric argues. Cynric spins and kicks Punk in the stomach to double him over. He hits a backflip version of the Lift Off to put Punk down. He covers, but one of his feet is outside the ropes, and Bowers refuses to count. Cynric argues some more and grabs Bowers by the shirt. Punk is able to hit a low blow undetected, and executes an inside cradle for a close two count. He whips Cynric into the ropes, but Cynric hits a spinning wheel kick and goes to the top rope for his elbow smash. Punk goes up after Cynric and hits him with rights. Cynric goes for a top rope Shock Cannon, but can't hold Punk up. Punk falls back to the top rope right in position for the Pepsi Plunge. He hits it from the top and covers Cynric for the three count.)
Winner: C.M. Punk
David: I can't believe it! Cynric had Punk down and beaten twice and he still managed to sneak away with the victory!
Dick: Those are the rules, David. The ref saw that Punk was out of bounds the first time, and then noticed that Cynric was out of bounds after the Lift Off.
David: That's questionable, though, because Bowers did count to three after the Shock Cannon. It begs the question, is the mach over when the ref counts three or when the bell rings? It was a good catch by Bowers, but a tough break for Cynric.
(Punk backs up the aisle with the belt as Eddie Crowe comes out and wraps a towel around him. Punk grins back at Cynric, who is starting to get up in the ring.)
David: Nonetheless, C.M. Punk wins again. We're out of time here at Midsummer Night Slam. Thank you for joining us, and be sure to watch next month as MECCA presents Liberty or Death, July 30, from Lansing, Michigan. Good night!
