Lesson Plans

1) Finding Pi - This is a lesson containing two days (at least) of activities where students look at the ratio of various circles' diameters to their circumfreences.  Day 2 of the lesson involves students plotting the results of the previous day's work, either on graph paper or on a computer.

2)Discovering Pi - This is a discovery lesson on the irrational number pi.  In it students work in groups of two to measure and record the circumference and diameter of various round objects and look at their ratios.  Through this activity it is hoped that the students will discover the constant pi (3.14..).

3) The Area of a Circle - This is a lesson that involves finding the area of a circle.  It uses the method of cutting a circle into sections and pasteing them together in the form of a parrellelogram.  Then, by finding the area of the parallelogram, students find the formula for the area of a circle.
