The Sovereign disc:" Music From the Shadows"
                     March 8, 2003
Frankly, the first track of this disc disturbed me (if that's what you were going for, good job, guys). The vocals are horrible, I felt like I was listening to the sound track to that cheesey TV show, Tales From the Crypt. However, upon listening to the rest of the songs, I realized that it isn't that the guy has a bad voice, he's just trying to hard.
The next track, Ill-omens, begins with the sound of the scrolling radio dial. Like that's something new?? I could count on two hands other bands that have songs which start out that way. However, the song itself isn't bad. Except for the screeching (which appears in nearly every song) that reminds me of a dying badger.
The drumming, guitar and bass parts are really simple, but the sound is organized and refined compared to when I saw them live. And the singer's voice gets less and less creepy nearing the end of the disc. In general, I'm getting the feeling that this band has some talent hidden somewhere, but for right now, I can't call myself a fan.
