Seventh Grade World Geography

 

Course Description

 

The World Geography Program is divided into two parts.  During the first half of the year the students will study physical geography, including such topics as land forms, weather, climate, vegetation, resources, and the world’s people.

 

The second part of the program consists of cultural geography. The students study the countries and continents of the world starting with the USA and North America. The study includes the physical features, climate and cultural patterns of each country.

 

Textbook

 

Each student has their own textbook: “Geography, the World and its People” National Geographic Society 2005

 

Homework Policy

 

There are several types of homework assignments:

 

  1. Rewrite notes.  This helps the students organize them into effective study guides.  The notes are the basis for the test.
  2. Teacher generated questions about readings or exercises at the end of each chapter.
  3. Reporting on current events.
  4. Making maps and charts.
  5. Study for test.

 

Tests and Projects

 

There will two to three tests and one project each marking period.  Students should study for at least two days before the tests.  Every test will have at least one essay question.  The writing done for tests and projects will be assessed critically in accordance with the Seventh Grade Core Curriculum Standards.
