A
region near the nucleus, called the cetrosome, is where microtubules
grow out from and where the centrioles are located in some animal
cells. They come as a pair, each made of nine sets of three
microtubules arranged in a ring. When the cell divides, centrioles
replicate. While they may help organize microtubule assembly, they
are not essential for this function in all eukaryotes.
