Rusty, 15 years old June 2002 possibly Desert Labrador or Beagle - Shepard
Mix. He has the soul of a St Hubert Hound |
Life is 'ruff'. Rusty was severly ill around Easter of this year. He had stopped eating and could barely stand, much less walk. Thank you for your kind thoughts. He's up and around again. Not 100%,but for his age, Rusty is doing well. |
Finally got the pillow away from the catThis is very close to his true coloring |
Rusty smiles |
King of his domain |
The following cat is the first of 10 neighborhood
cats to adopt Rusty. Only two are allowed in the house. He's a nurturer to cats and refuses to chase them off. |
To take the pillow or to not take the pillow from the dog. That is the question. |
Stuck sharing the pillow again, although, Tiger makes a good chin rest. |
How's a cat to sleep when the dog snores! |
Aha! smart enough to fake out the cat and get the entire pillow to myself for a change. |
Purr-fect printer nap attack |
Purr-inter down |
Purr-int job |
Anything to be near people. |
Pure "catitude" (laughs)
Come into the light |
Say 'hi' to Tiger |
A purr-fectly good pose. |
What do you mean? No way is this the dog's pillow! |
Second day in my new home and I already know where the people food is! (6/21/02) |
Duke caught in motion. |
Boxer blend in the face. The remainder is much like a Podengo Portugeuse
Medio. Rescued from Humane Society 6/19/02 |
Duke has a crooked lower left canine which causes
his upper lip to appear to be in a ferocious snarl. (Or as if a stogy {cigar} should be hanging from his mouth). At eight months old, he's as long as three sofa cushions. He loves his tummy rubs. Duke chews everything; cushions, scrunchies, etc. If he can put it in his mouth, he'll toss it up into the air and play 'catch the toy' by himself. p.s. He's had his surgery and it has NOT mellowed him out at all.

10/06/2002: Rusty's arthritis has gotten worse. He can barely stand and wobbles often while walking. I had to pick him up from the yard and raise him to the porch so he could come into the house. He stopped eating for three days. Saturday night, at my suggestion, Joe put Rusty into our bed (around 8 p.m.). Rusty layed there for an hour or so, then wanted down. He drank some water around 6 a.m. and couldn't keep it in his stomach. With great sadness, Joe took him to the Humane Society this Sunday morning at 9 a.m. to have them take Rusty from his misery. We miss him greatly and our grief is profound. Rusty was not only the perfect dog, he was a member of our family.
Duke was returned to the Humane Society on September 26th. Although he was kept well fed, had plenty of toys and given frequent attention, he chose to eat the love seat and sectional, shoes, socks, and anything on any table. He willfully ignored his training. After much thought, we decided he'd be best suited for another family.
