American Saddlebred
Origin: United States of America, 19th century
Average Color: any solid color
Average Height: 15-16 hh
The saddlebred is a 5 gaited horse (meaning walk, trot, canter, slow-gait and rack) but can be 3 gaited. They were originally known as "Kentucky Walkers" and were used by plantation owners who needed smooth, comfortable yet showy horses to ride.
They are seen now in the show ring normally in saddle seat classes both undersaddle, in hand and in driving classes, though they can be seen anywhere including hunter, jumping and even western classes!
