Completing this course will require a lot of maturity and is an excellent opportunity for you to start your planning and time management skills. As you will see at this encampment, planning and time management are keys in producing a productive and smooth running encampment. I am sure that all of you are at a very busy stage in your life and it may not be easy for you to find any extra time. However, if you hope to serve as staff at this encampment there are preparations that you must make. You are responsible to take a look at what you will be covering each week and plan it into your schedule. Your ability to do this with a positive and progressive attitude is what will set you apart as an excellent prospective staff member. You are not required to have a high skill level to be a staff member, however, you will be expected to put all of the things you have learned here, into practice at encampment, so learn it well. If questioned about any of the material you should be able to give knowledgeable answers. Remember, by serving as staff at this encampment you are responsible for mentoring and bringing out CAPs future leaders. Respect and hold reverence to that responsibility.
As I mentioned earlier, your attitude will measure your productiveness as a leader. Nobody knows everything. If you think that you are Gods gift to CAP, then dont come to this encampment. You need humility and a willingness to learn, not arrogance and self-elevation. A negative attitude is detrimental to an encampment, or any other activity for that matter. I have been to many different types of workshops in and outside of CAP, and have witnessed their successes and failures. All of them were fed into their state of being by the participants attitudes. Perhaps some of you have witnessed this yourselves. Think back to your first encampment and remember the attitudes of those around you. How did their attitudes affect you? Because this is so important, we will not be tolerating negative attitudes at this encampment. This year we have adopted a three tier removal process for staff who are not willing to positively serve in their positions. The three steps are: a verbal warning, written warning, and then position removal. I will be sorry to have to use this, but, I care too much for the rest of the cadets at the encampment to allow a negative influence to continue. Everyone will make mistakes, this will not get you removed from your position. It is your attitude that counts. I sincerely hope that all of you will care enough to not provoke the use of this tool.
Attached is an interview letter. Think about the questions carefully, copy and paste it to an email, fill it out and return it to the email address below by this Sunday 6-9-02. We begin staff training the following Monday 6-10-02. The training will run for four weeks. There are four blocks of study we will be covering. Each week we will be posting a new block on our staff training web site www.geocities.com/me_encampment_staff_2002 (we will be making other arrangements for those of you who do not have internet access). Within the blocks, this is a self paced course, you are responsible to cover all of the material thoroughly. The following Friday of each week, we will post an interview on the web site to evaluate your knowledge of the material youve been covering as well as give you an opportunity to share your experiences and insight with us. Exceptionally insightful answers my even be posted on the web site for other students to benefit from. You are required to complete these evaluations and have them back to us by the following Sunday. In addition to the evaluation there will be assignments specific to the block you are studying, those will be listed in the beginning of the block and are also due each Sunday. There will also be an end-of-course evaluation.
Before sending in your interview forms go to the staff web site and look through the course introduction. If you have trouble doing this be sure to let us know. If you have any questions or comments you can email us at [email protected]. Or when necessary by phone C/Maj Renzullo at (207) 255-0963. At the completion of the course we will be posting the chain-of command on the web site.
