April 12, 2004 Dino had to work on Saturday but not on Easter, so we headed to San Francisco's North Beach for an Italian festival. Turned out the festival wasn't in North Beach. So we hiked for about an hour and ended up at Coit Tower. At the base is Pioneer Park, through which runners and tourists climb to access a tower that resembles a firehose. We spent a while enjoying the view. Along the way down we watched a few parakeets perched in a tall fruit tree, eating the fruit green. Suddenly all 20 of them rushed out into formation and flew away. We passed through the financial district and headed to the Metreon for lunch.
April 5, 2004 Dino came to work with me in San Francisco, and afterwards we went to Golden Gate Park. We ate lunch at Masala, okay Indian curries but good service. Then we went to the Arboretum and took lots of pictures. That night we cooked and pureed our last pumpkin, and I made pumpkin bread and two pies from scratch. At least this time Dino didn't eat a whole pie in one sitting!
April 15, 2004 About a month ago was Marie's, Dino's mother's, birthday. Her good friend Anna from Michigan also came to celebrate. We had dinner at Chinese restaurant King Yen and for dessert went to our apartment. I had made a three layered angel food cake with whipped cream, cream cheese, and berries layered inside. Here are pictures.
April 19, 2004 Last night Dino and I had a dinner party with 8 friends, our largest so far. Last time we had one was January, so we were a little out of practice. Also since Dino insisted on not making the pasta ahead of time, he felt very rushed. I made shiitake mushroom vege udon and pumpkin pie with fresh whipped cream. Dino made pasta with red sauce, pasta carbonara, and talapia with lemon and fresh dill. We also had edamame, chiabatta bread with brie, and pears. To drink we had water with cucumber and a couple bottles of wine, a red brought by Carmel and Josh and a Charles Shaw Shiraz which was surprisingly fairly fruity and smooth. Needless to say, everyone was stuffed. Seemed like everyone had a good time. It was a semi-mixed crowd. A few people had never met, since I'd invited Jenny from work and Chris, Akiko's son. It was nice to see everyone, and because Dino and I now have the capacity to seat more than three additional people, we'll host another dinner party soon.
