| Herstory of the Mu Epsilon Chapter |
| On June 7, 1991, the Mu Epsilon chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho was chartered at Lamar University. Our four charter members Zelinka Deal, Jacqueline Nance, Nicole Shackleford, and Jeness Sherrell, continued to uphold the dream of greater service and achievement through higher education. Although, all sororities promote some of the same ideals of sisterhood and social development, Sigma Gamma Rho emphasizes academic success and community service. In keeping with our national slogan "Greater Service, Greater Progress", we have supported the following organizations and programs: United Negro College Fund, National Panhellenic Council, Women and Children Shelter, Stuart's Halfway House, Wee Savers, Buckle Up America, Soles for Little Souls, Project Mwanamugimu, Operation Big Book Bag, Project Africare, Project Reassurance, and the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundations. |
