Consejos Prcticos (Practical suggestions for travelers)
I have chosen to do this portion of my page in English because I feel it will be more useful to those traveling to Mxico to have any travel suggestions in English rather than in Spanish.
1. Be very cautious as to whom you trust, just as you would when traveling to any new destination. 2. When in Mexico City in the Federal District or el D.F. the most inexpensive way to travel is by micro busses. Word of caution if you have trouble understanding and speaking spanish fluently I recommend using the Taxis especially in the D.F., most of them have meters and are worth the cost. 3. Because Mexico City and other travel destinations in Mexico are highly dependent upon tourists shopping around to find the best price is a good idea, buying or soliciting a service from the first place, person or business you find is not. Haggling is also highly recommended in virtually all scenarios when it comes to tourism (especially if you are the leader of a large group and a good looking professor like ours, we got some great group rates because of it). 4. Traveling in pairs or in groups is a good idea when traveling at night or in the evening hours. 5. Outside of the D.F. everything changes, always ask a price before you pay, especially when it comes to taxis. If one chauffeur will not take the price you want another will. 6. Relax and enjoy your trip as much as possible, remember that life is 90% reaction and 10% action. If your attitude toward your trip is positive then your experience will be rewarding as well. 7. Check with your bank before leaving to see if they charge any special fees for converting the money in your account upon withdrawal into pesos from an international ATM. This could save you from any terrible surprises when you come home. 8. If a guide named Armando offers to guide you and tells you he knows what you want to see and what is interesting to you-tell him to take a hike! |
